Hopefully Kitten Space Agency ends up being a true spiritual sequel.

It’s particularly useful for turkey, where the difference between moist and horribly dry white meat is only 5-10 degrees.
Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•What sort of grill needs a firmware update lol7·5 days agoTraeger makes pellet smokers. They have a hopper full of wood pellets and a micro controller that feeds in pellets to maintain a set temperature. You can get ones with a temperature probe to stick in the meat and let you know when it’s done, which is what the Wi-Fi is for.
There’s a legit use case for them because they save a ton of time and effort over smoking the traditional way.
Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•What sort of grill needs a firmware update lol17·5 days agoIt’s great for smoking though. I’ve done it the old fashioned way of staying up all night to feed wood into the smoker and I’ll gladly take a wifi-enabled pellet smoker with a temperature probe over it.

It prevents rootkit malware that loads before the OS and therefore is very difficult to detect. If enabled, it tells your machine to only load the OS if it’s signed by a trusted key and hasn’t been tampered with.
It’s one of the reasons Tyranny is such a good game. You start out as a bad guy in an evil system. You can try to do good, but you never really succeed because you’re trapped in an evil system.
Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•The signatures are still coming and it's already making an impactEnglish36·7 days agoThe devs would probably prefer if their work for several years wasn’t thrown in the trash. It’s the publishers and suits killing games.
Humans essentially do run on fossil fuels. Modern agriculture is very energy intensive.
Just because you have admin rights doesn’t mean the process you’ve invoked does. Unless you specifically elevate it or the process asks to elevate, it’ll run unprivileged.

Compare that with the Somali pirates that captured 100+ ships during their peak in 2010-2011.
Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•U.S. calls on China to prevent Iran from closing Strait of Hormuz and disrupting global oil flows5·21 days agoThe only possible way they have to close the strait is by mining it. Anything else would be open to air attack and about as effective as the Houthis, which is to say not very.
Nevermind that if they allowed through any shipments, it would defeat the entire purpose of closing the Strait. Oil is fungible and will be resold if a profit can be made, as we’ve already seen with the Russian sanctions.
Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•U.S. calls on China to prevent Iran from closing Strait of Hormuz and disrupting global oil flows3·21 days agoChina gets to not have oil shortages. They’re far more dependent on the middle east for oil. The US has been self sufficient when it comes to oil for almost a decade.
Also they changed the permission model and introduced UAC, but it took developers forever to update and stop constantly writing to sensitive OS locations.

The police rush in and beat the shit out of them. The entire point of provocateurs is to manufacture an excuse to use violence.
Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•700 Marines ordered to assist in Los Angeles8·1 month agoBecause people don’t suddenly develop a hivemind when engaging in a protest. You get a large group of people together and the likelihood that at least one of them is a shithead quickly hits 100%. Add in agent provocateurs and you get situations like this.

They did it because they didn’t want to have to pay for flood insurance. They didn’t give a shit about the kids’ lives and just wanted to save money.
