14·1 month agoYeah also did that for my recent site using StaticBuilder and Codeberg. Took longer but well worth supporting smaller businesses.
Btw, if people are passionate about this topic. There is a community and website on [email protected] .

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•I created a guide to help people fight big tech, the biggest proponents of late-stage capitalism, to switch & find more ethical and smaller businesses
2·3 months agoIf you’re looking to improve the guide I’d suggest not putting the week number in the same column as the list of app targets. Like either push them all the way to the left margin or rightward toward the arrow column
Yeah agreed, might even remove the week title as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

2·3 months agoThanks @[email protected] ! It’s comments like these that make it all worth it. So hard to know how many people are actually following these guides and benefiting from them. Having done the switch myself through this process, I feel so much better using tools from genuine businesses.

3·3 months agoSpotify is an alternative, but it doesn’t come recommended (in the guide or the website) and has a huge disclaimer to their name. https://purchasewithpurpose.io/software/D5JUoM1dZysf7JJgTAWXy/
The reality is that most people know about Spotify, so it’s better to educate people as to why they aren’t a good option rather than not mention them at all.

3·3 months agoThere usually is a long list of feedback points that I try to incorporate after each post. I have made several changes, but those were limited to the website. I get you on the guide not being updated, and sorry for that. I’ll make sure update it before sharing it again so it can also keep improving.

3·3 months agoMentioned on the website. Just not on the guide as it is more targeted to the tech-savvy. https://purchasewithpurpose.io/category/password-manager/
P.s. recently came across https://psono.com/ which looks to also be an excellent self-hosted option.

14·3 months agoI guess so… The social media part wasn’t meant to be a main focus, as it often depends on moving not yourself but the people around you. I do intend to revisit it, though.

It is truly horrifying when you drill into the numbers.
I can see that it MIGHT be useful as a tool for medical professionals, but exposing it to the public is an insane risk.
