neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How does AI use so much power?7·15 hours agoThis is a pretty great explanation/simplification.
I’ll add that because the calculations rely on floating point math in many cases, graphics chips do most of the heavy processing since they were already designed for this pipeline in mind with video games.
That means there’s a lot of power hungry graphics chips running in these data centers. It’s also why NVidia stock is so insane.

It can be both things. You are correct, the road designs are dangerous, and the lack of driver education about road safety, and constant retesting, especially in the elderly, contributes to that.
Additionally, the size of our vehicles on the road increase the fatality chances dramatically in collisions/crashes with other vehicles and especially pedestrians.
There are numerous factors that all add up to be the hellscape that is driving in America. We don’t need to fight against one of those to promote another.
Seems to fit the official definition pretty neatly. Colloquially, I tend to agree with you, there’s a spectrum for fraud. But this still counts as fraud. It’s a fraudulent misrepresentation of the truth to convince others to part with something of value (a gift).
The fact that it’s a gift doesn’t change that this is fraud, only the severity of fraud in a legal sense.
neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.worksto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•This is pants on head stupidEnglish1·2 days agoWe’re subsidizing that cost in increased insurance premiums.
This is the same counter to people claiming universal or state sponsored health care is going to increase taxes. We’re already getting taxed on that by the rising premium costs and less coverage for what we get/higher deductibles. I’m old enough to remember in the 80’s and 90’s that healthcare was basically “free”, as long as you were employed. Almost all procedures were covered and your out of pocket/co-pay was covered under most plans after a small $250/500 deductible.
We pay for it in one form or another. I’d rather pay for it in my taxes, like every other first world country does. Works pretty well for them.

Yeah, that’s a decent middleground. It still doesn’t solve the more extreme/inclement weather issue if the cardboard gets wet, say when thrown into an ice chest, or accidentally dropped off a fishing boat; but it’s good enough for most applications.
I always wonder why he couldn’t just drink Coke. It’s more sugar water than sugar and water.
And more resilient to weather/time/etc. for transporting in sub-optimal conditions.
There’s also the possibility that since this is edible and exposed, putting this in a warehouse would invite a horde of rodents and insects.
It’s a good idea, but the reason we haven’t done this before is because it creates inconvenient problems for distribution centers and the logistics of transportation and storage. Which in the short and long run, costs more money to either prevent the negative outcomes, or deal with them later.
It is better for the environment, but I’d rather go after billionaires and huge corporations polluting the environment without repercussions first.
Oh, good to know. So his whole family are full of immigrants, as is his wife…
