Only thing worse than a conservative is a centrist, because centrists are just conservatives that are too cowardly to own up to their hateful views.

10·3 months agoWe have a set of criteria for what constitutes a cult, and scientology is unequivocally a cult. If there’s any debate, it’s from the church trying to deny the fact.
Likewise, we also have the scientific method that disproves the health claims regularly made by homeopathy practicioners.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Scientists have been studying remote work for four years and have reached a very clear conclusion: “Working from home makes us thrive”English
5·3 months agoThat’s exactly it.
When they said that there’s a lot of money on the line they meant for themselves since they were partners.
They offered to share some of it with me in the shape of a very generous 3% contingent salary increase, which would come with strings attached like everything they ever offered me.
I’ve been learning to grow veggies, cook dry beans, and bake bread since money is tight after I resigned, and my partner and I are way happier because I’m not as stressed out from dealing with sociopaths and morons at work all day long.

“Empty suits” it’s the realest statement.
I resigned my position because I couldn’t take it anymore. I told leadership that I refuse to use my skills and talents for those who I do not respect, and they responded by saying that there was a lot of money on the line.
They can fucking keep it. Fucking ghouls.

10·3 months agoCorporations are firing and laying off labor, but that labor is not being done by AI-- it’s simply falling on those who are still employed or not getting done at all.
I resigned from an international public accounting firm due to having AI forced on very sensitive and delicate projects in order to lower costs. As a professional, every alarm bell went off and I left because I could be held liable for their terrible managerial decisions.
They told me they were sad to see me go, but AI is the future and hope I changed my mind-- this was all back in April.
Not only did AI fail to do a fraction of the work we were told it was going to do, it caused over $2MM in client damages that the firm then used to justify the firing of the remaining members of the projects’ team for failing to properly supervise the AI, even though every manager struggles to open a PDF.
AI is not the future because it is literally only capable of looking backwards.
AI is a performative regurgitation of information that real people put the time and energy into gathering, distilling, refining, and presenting to others to evaluate and contribute to.
Even worse, AI demonstrably makes its users dependent and intellectually lazy. If you think about it, the more prevalent AI usage becomes, the less and less capable people will be left to maintain it. And to all the fools crying out that AI will take care of itself or robots will, I say:
All LLMs are hallucinating and going psychotic, and that is not something that can be fixed due to the very nature of how LLMs work.
AI is not intelligent. And while it could be, that would take far too much energy and resources to make cost-effective machines with as many neural connections present in the brain of an average MAGA voter-- and that is already a super a low bar for most of us to clear.

1·6 months agoThese arguments are so disingenuous.
None of us have any clue about the nuances within the bills being proposed, unless we actually take the time to read them-- which most of us have not.
All I’m trying to argue is that AOC has a right to be concerned about an amendment because she is thinking of the unintended consequences behind the proposals.
Of course I want Israel to receive zero fucking dollars from the US, but I am thinking of our pull out from Afghanistan and all the fucking allies left behind to die.
There’s enough intelligence in the room to come up with something that doesn’t lead to more deaths.

1·6 months agoThe USA both fed the cartels and also trained and armed the Mexican Marines that combat them.
Is that ideal? Of course the fuck not.
Ideally, you would not have fucking meddled with our country or any other for that matter.
But what is done is done, and if you stop funding to the various programs put in place to combat the cartels, the cartels ain’t fucking going anywhere until you dumb nuts finally ban guns-- and well, I don’t see that happening any time soon.
I support people understanding that conflicts are far more nuanced and difficult to resolve than one would think.
Oh snap, you’re right. It’s like a 200 IQ move. 😂
If you happened to have an unusually high IQ, why you would you choose to join Mensa, or be a moderator on Reddit for that matter?
The smartest thing you can do is obfuscate your level of intelligence, not brag about it. That’s just how you end up doing more work and getting blamed by everyone around you.

Overnight Soak for Beans: Soaking your beans overnight is the most traditional method, and it yields the best results. It allows you to cook beans on the stove quickly without sacrificing flavor or texture. To soak beans overnight, put the beans in a pot and cover with water by about two inches. Add 2 tablespoons kosher salt per pound of beans and allow them to soak for 4 to 12 hours, or overnight. Drain and rinse the beans before cooking.
Short Soak for Beans: If you didn’t plan ahead to soak your beans overnight, don’t fret. You can still get similar results using this quick soak method. To start, put the beans in a pot on the stove and cover with water by two inches. Add salt and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and let the beans soak for an hour. Drain and rinse the beans before cooking.

I also add half a yellow onion to my beans while they cook.
