They did get a wage increase and better health benefits / sick leave, and the strike did go on for months. It literally could have shut down many local businesses, caused hardships for millions, caused shortages for many industries, not just the billionaire owned ones either.
The alternative is, eat all that cost for millions of people, and eventually after who knows how long one side caves. This is a lose-lose situation, and you can say he chose the wrong option, but to frame this as “he just chose to block the rail strike to side with the corporations” is just not accurate.
