I got a cheap Xiaomi smartwatch a few months ago and the manual straight up says that the water resistance is good enough for basic swimming but don’t bring it into a sauna or hot shower for this exact reason. (I avoid submerging it in general because I bought it secondhand and if it was refurbished that can mess up the waterproofing.)

My mi band 3 survived more than one Ocean swim. Gave it to my mum, still works. The pixel watch i replaced it with is dead, without any swimming.
I have been wearing my Huawei smartwatch everywhere for years. Shower, jacuzzi, surfing, etc. No problems so far.
