The parents of a 3-year-old Detroit-area boy who had a loaded gun in his backpack at a daycare were charged with misdemeanor crimes Thursday as prosecutors also revealed the firearm was passed to other kids before a staff member intervened.

The gun was not fired and no one was injured.

“It is very unsettling to think about what may have happened in this case,” Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

One parent was charged with violating Michigan’s gun storage law, while the other parent, a Detroit-area police officer, was charged with creating a risk of harm, which is fourth-degree child abuse. They appeared in court and were released on bond.

    Misdemeanours. Jesus Christ. Does Michigan not have reckless endangerment as a felony or are they just so gun brained that your toddler finding your loaded firearm, bringing it to school, and passing it around to their fellow toddlers doesn’t count?

      One of the parents is a cop. I’m guessing they looked for the most lenient charge that would still feel “reasonable” to those involved.

        Right?! The other article linked in the first says;

        Bialy said the child’s other parent is a police officer from a neighboring jurisdiction. He said the handgun found at the daycare was not a service weapon.

        Oh goody, it wasn’t their service weapon. Nothing to see here, folks. Just a normal gun in the hands of a three year old. Plural because a three year old can’t hold a handgun in one hand. I note that there is not a peep about disciplinary action for the officer who is charged with “creating a risk of harm, which is fourth-degree child abuse.”

      One of the biggest delusions of the gun-brained is the idea that gun accidents are “personal responsibility” and a simple matter of choices made by those involved. The truth is that there are too many guns and guns are dangerous and stuff like toddlers and dogs shooting people is just a mathematical eventuality.

      Our country has chosen to be just as irresponsible with guns as these parents. Charlie Kirk was right to say that the 2nd costs innocent blood, I just disagree with him that it’s a good trade.

          I’m sorry for whatever your English teacher did to you, but don’t make it my problem. You have to understand that well-adjusted adults don’t tremble in fear before the mighty red pen. English is a dirty slut and I can use her however I want, and there is nothing you can do about it you can’t do nothing about it.

      Michigan has a law that charges gun owners if a kid hurts someone with a gun. This involved a cop though so laws don’t apply.
