  • President McKinley was assassinated and his vice president was put into power. At the time, the last president died in office more than 50 years prior so the idea of the office of vice president was seen as a place to park political activists who would upset the status quo. That’s how Teddy Roosevelt became the VP - to get him out of the way. He was a famous American public figure but had national ideas that didn’t agree with the political machines of the day. He was such an easily electable person that both parties wanted him on their ballot so they wouldn’t lose if he ran. Teddy chose the progressive plank of the Republican party (before they became racist and evil in the 60s) and did easily win the governor’s office of NY.

Roosevelt was a nature lover and hated big corporations and was the reason that 1900s America had a sudden pivot from WE LOVE INDUSTRIAL MONEY to FUCK UP THE RICH. Roosevelt was America’s Progressive President. One of the biggest fears of Roosevelt was that corporations would take over natural wonders and monetize or ruin them, Niagara Falls was the example. The idea of preserving open wild spaces was around when Roosevelt was a child so he didn’t invent the notion, but he saved more lands than anyone else did. And he did it by abusing executive orders since Congress was unreliable about forming industry blocking nature preserves.

For more detail, Ken Burns made a documentary series about America forming the National Parks and I think he captured the majesty and grandeur of the open spaces and why they are worth saving.

  • If Vietnam had the PR machine of America, Võ Nguyên Giáp would be heralded as one of the greatest military minds of all time. Instead he is begrudgingly accepted as a good strategist who probably beat 3 of the biggest, most powerful militaries in the world with villagers.

The West doesn’t want to admit that a lawyer who was untrained in military doctrine and strategy beat France then the USA then Cambodia then China in a long 40 year fight. To Americans, the Vietnam was a gruesome 20 years. To Vietnam that was the second chapter of a 50 year period where someone tried to conquer them.

  • At first he was cool and would wash people’s cars and picking up animal poop from yards. But it turns out he wasn’t helpful. He was gathering materials and was stealing polluted dirt, piles of shit, and anything else he could find into grotesque golems that roam town and do his bidding. It’s unbearable to go to the market for some bread and milk only to discover the waste elemental made of animated shit and cigarette butts is there to get groceries for him. It’s a fucking nightmare and it makes me want to wear anti magic pendants to fuck up his errands - but that leaves behind unanimated filth that has to be moved by us mundanes. It’s so one sided it’s like tyranny.

  • Folks seem to be missing why PCMR is even a thing. It is a tongue in cheek representation of PC users during the console brand fights of PS2/Xbox though PS4/Xbox One. The idea is that PC users sneer down on console users and don’t see the precarious position we are in with our bloated upfront costs to entertainment.

It was never meant for a direct “PC is superior” idea - in fact it’s making the statement that PC users are silly and take themselves too seriously.
