So we had a strange early insurance change at work. HSA plan went from 6k max out of pocket to 16k.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•San Francisco has the infrastructure to be a transit utopia. What’s holding it back? Something smallEnglish
3·8 days agoIt was very poorly written. The fact that you (and I) read the article and don’t know what they were intending to convey is telling. I THINK the issue is fragmentation that they mention breifly, but that is probably me bring my previous opinions to the article.
right? teams is a descendant of INSTANT messaging. I actually find it more annoying if someone tries to initiate a Teams Call without the “do you have a minute for a quick call?”
Some things are easier to do via email. Some things are best discussed live. Be that via text or voice or video.
How do kids write? I know I will go back and forth over the same well formed letter to make it look scribbly.
I am very impressed about your directness and take charge attitude. Your approach of bring others in to help you accomplish your goals really speaks of future CEO material to me.
And (reportedly) 19 million more who thought, ‘whatever, I’m not voting’

Books@lemmy.world•What's the weirdest typo/error you've seen in a book?
2·2 months agoyeah. I try to give him some grace as a scifi writer with him seeing the sexual revolution in the 60s based on the release of the pill and trying to imagine where the trajectory will end in 50, 100 years when you separate sex from reproduction. Still his take was kinda creepy and gross.
I think the worst example of him trying to write women was “I Will Fear No Evil”. It is an interesting story as it attempts to reconcile sex and gender written from a cis man in the 1970s, but its pretty messed up. I appreciate that he seems to attempt to bring these ideas into mainstream consciousness, I just wonder if he could have done some more research.

4·2 months agoI have not seen that, I will have to check it out.
I thought stranger in a strange land would make a great miniseries. I loved that book as a teen. I read it as an adult some years ago and it didn’t hit the same way. Still, it could be adapted to an impactful story today. People would learn where grok came from and disassociate it with Musk’s racist piece of trash (pisses me off).

News@lemmy.world•Trump signs bill compelling the Justice Department to release its records on Jeffrey Epstein after months of pushback
16·3 months agoIt bugs me that there is this generic description of ‘files’ and I don’t think I’ve heard discussions of what to expect. Funancial records? Client lists? Blackmail material?
We know big banks helped him by not reporting transactions they were legally required to. If the financial records aren’t released it’s bullshit. Always follow the money. Name and shame those who proffited from him.
Havn’t bought one yet. Just eyeing my next project (realistically 2 projects from now). I narrowed down the Millennium cause I think I could get the most utility out of it. If I were to really do it how I would like Id need a pbx and thats a project Im definitely not willing to take on for some time.
yeah, but Im over here trying to figure out how to connect an old Nortel Millennium so that the display works for caller ID… (I want to put one of these in the garden)

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•🐆 Right-wing trans woman finds out "gender-criticals" cannot be reasoned with
1·3 months agoI see a lot of (often well deserved) shit talk about centrists/middle ground. Honestly, it IS silly to talk about middle ground between reason and raw hate. I do, however, doubt myself if I look around and find myself spouting the most extreme ideas on a given topic. How isnt that scary to people? I dont want to be the fanatic. I was raised with talk about the middle path and the golden mean. Virtue in courage is found between recklessness and cowardice. I still subscribe to that notion, but absolutely recognize how one can lull themselves into false means based on the prevailing culture (Overton window). Still, I dont see how it is that hard to have some bedrock principals, and use those to anchor a true middle ground.

we are seeing a resurgence of New World Screwworms. We eradicated it in the US in 1966, however, we have since seen a resurgence. Basically we used sterile males to make sure no new worms would be born in the US but thats a big border, so we worked with Mexico and other north and Central American countries to push it down past panama. Unfortunately when republicans find out we are spending money fighting disease in other countries, they think why help them? and kill funding. So now we are going to have to spend a shitload more money to defend our wide ass border, rather than a fraction of the cost defending a natural border.
