  • Obama did install ozone generators in 2012.
    More info on the renovation.

Prior to the 2010-2012 renovations, it was filled with municipal water, and leaked 500,000 gallons a week, it lacked significant plumbing systems, and had to be drained twice a year and cleaned. It used about 30 million gallons of treated drinking water a year. It also lacked key accessibility features, like paved paths around the pool.
The renovations cost upwards of $34 million. They got the pool off of municipal water and connected it to the tidal basin. They made the pool shallower to use less water, and painted the bottom of the pool a darker color to enhance its ability to reflect the monument.
They didn’t manage to fix all the leaks but who cares when the water comes from the tidal basin that it leaks back into?

I think Trump is doing this to try to step on Obama’s accomplishments while giving hand outs (no bid contracts) to cronies.

It did not need to be done. He’s just an asshole.

  • I have a sexual parasomnia - while this hasn’t happened in at least 15 years, I used to initiate sex while asleep. I have no memory of it, but I have groped, kissed, sucked on the fingers of people, and sexually touched people sleeping next to me.
I’ve always woken up just before sex occurred, but I’ve accidentally had sex with people before - people who I was attracted to, but maybe didn’t want to bang - because we fell asleep together.

These days I’m not nearly in as many beds as I used to be (regardless of purpose) but I’m also an incredibly light sleeper now. The slightest movement and my conscious brain takes over. (Yay for newly(ish) developed hyper vigilance and anxiety.)
With that said, I don’t sleep next to anyone anymore unless we’ve had a conversation about what could happen, and are on the same page.

To your point about discussing things: The topic of consent around something that I’m not consciously aware is of occurring can be challenging as hell to navigate, but easier than not having a chat beforehand.

  • What about even later? Were they seen going home for the day?

Do the workers need to be rebooted? Or like, is the rope they’re using not long enough? Are they just walking laps with a too-short rope, endlessly attempting to enclose a volume they will never have a long enough rope to enclose? Just chasing the end as it moves away from them with each step?
Does their struggle represent the American dream? Is there a smug geometry teacher somewhere yelling “this is why you need to know the formula for perimeters!” at their news source?

  • I thought this sounded familiar.

Twitter collected user phone numbers and email addresses for the stated reason of account verification/security. It then used that data for advertising.

It’s currently banned from profiting from deceptively collected data, is required to allow users to utilize MFA not tied to their phone number, must assess the privacy and security risks of new products, must disclose data breaches to the FCC, and limit employee access to user private information.

Not that a Republican FCC would enforce the rules, but this would make it official that Twitter can do all those things. Expect Musk to be sliming into the DM’s of everyone.

  • I must have.

My wife is an anxious passenger. I usually set the adaptive cruise control to whatever matches prevailing traffic, and stay in the outermost lane unless I have to pass someone. Most of my driving is honestly trying to make sure if someone does something stupid, I’m reacting to it in a calm way.

A lot of people have big feels about controlling the road.
The adaptive cruise control is interesting - if I’m a few hundred feet behind someone long enough for it to “lock in”, I know their speed because my car is pacing them.

It’s fascinating to see people suddenly accelerate after miles of the same speed on a relatively empty road because I moved into the passing lane, or (conversely) slow down because they’re alongside a slow vehicle and not in danger of being under-passed by another driver. The ego and herd mentality is something to behold.
