  • If only Lev’s writing style and this topic fit you. I was surprised to discover in my school years that many had read it or at least claimed it, while I couldn’t start to care two books in before dropping it altogether the first time, while I was the only one who could finish Quite Don, another long masterpiece from another author, that describes how pre- and revolutionary times of total chaos affected the lives of ordinary people, they both studied in the last years of HS. I feel like it’s both me being pissed off at (less) pretentiousness and (more of) overblown reputation of the first opus and also the more grounded, simple theming of the second one that I can relate to as a poor left-leaning person. I don’t want to underappreciate it’s language and symbolism, their long-going tree metaphor is a noticaebale highlight of all russian lit, and one character being concussed under the beatiful skies of Austerlitz (first book) is a banger of a quality rarely seen before, but for a majorly lefty platform like Lemmy, I’d recomend Scholokhov’s work as a viable alternative if one would get bored with Leo’s writing like me. That story, surpisingly approved by Stalin, may give some insights into how average person could feel and act trying to survive in the polarized society of an ongoing civil war. And that’s frustratingly actual in these tiring times.

  • I’m not sure if it’s wealth alone or just monopolies on power and influence achieved one way or another. The dark ages of many european nations were branded by churches’ influence over monarchs’ own decisions. They had at some point and in some places more real estate than anyone else, and usually supported wars for gains, but they gained their own power by monopolizing the irrational in commoners and printing god’s approval or forgiveness as they claimed they can do so. I’m not exactly well versed in the topic, but as a commoner myself I see the current concept of ‘wealth’ complicated by math, stonks and such as some sort of the same religious bullshit, but somehow more excusable in our age and time.

The US of A has a deep rooted fascism influence from it’s own sources, that’s right, but the current wave of such sentiments and politics is vulgarly shown as russian influence by russians themselves because they don’t have favorites, they want chaos, and doubling Trump as both a MAGA patriot and a traitor is what can cause more divide and fragility than if they’ve chosen just one side to push.

That was actual before Trump’s innauguration, but at that time I see it irrelevant because a mere influence dwarfs in comparison to orange fuck’s real actions to make the US the most unstable actor with the most ammount of military power, and its’ randomness makes me even more afraid for whatever future it would bring to other countries like mine.
