Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•How to Remove Linux and Install Windows on Your Computer
4·7 days agoIt’s great actually!
Before, I would make my coffee before turning on my computer, now I can streamline this as with Windows my computer isn’t ready until my coffee is too, saving me valuable minutes.
And right when I’m in the middle of my work, I’ll get exciting pop-ups about the new AI capabilities coming to Office 365, far beyond what LibreOffice could ever dream of. I didn’t even ask for the adverts, they just feed me new content all the time!
Most of my work now involves prompting Copilot and waiting for it’s response, downloading Windows Updates, or waiting for my Google Chrome with it’s own bundled 4GB AI model to install. With that much waiting, I’ve increased my coffee consumption 5x so far this week, hit my move goal 3x over every day (I go for a short 20 mile hike while the Updates download), and generated some absolutely hilarious images with ChatGPT and my friends!

Besides, what have I got to hide anyway?

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•How to Remove Linux and Install Windows on Your Computer
123·8 days agoThis came exactly when I needed it, thank you, recently my computer has been too fast for my liking, and I felt like I controlled something I owned (which is just too much responsibility for me right now), and all of that was solved when I replaced my OS with Windows. Glory to Microsoft, forced updates, Copilot, and outdated code!

1·10 days agoNot at all, it’s a Markdown file, plaintext. You just instruct your agent to assimilate that file into it’s context.

2·10 days agoTrust me my code aint worthy of being “art”.
If yours is, I totally get where you’re coming from, AI-generated code is pretty bad right now, albeit it does often work.
The way I often do things is have an agent create a rough first implementation according to my own architecture, so I have done all that high-level thinking that it currently struggles with; then I have a dedicated improvement agent come and clear that up substantially, and then I review whatever is left.

17·11 days agoWhich, yeah, isn’t great, but I stand with my intsance’s viewpoint on generative AI:
In other words, we’re not against Generative AI as a technology but we are against Generative AI as promoted by capitalism and corporate interests. To put this into perspective, it’s like saying: We’re not against using camera equipment, but we’re against the surveillance industry.
Just a lot
homonculipeople see AI and start screaming “AI slop” from the hilltops.

11·18 days agoIt does exist, but its small and separate from the “conglomonet”, if you will.
Unfortunately, yes, our brains are still wired almost exactly how they were when we were hunter-gatherers; we just stuff it with more knowledge now.
Back then, sure, greed was a necessary survival instinct to have food over the winters, and hand-outs were risky.
We haven’t adapted to the modern world, and the abundance available to us.
I have the same situation, no, unfortunately there hasn’t been any improvement with mixed DPI or fractional scaling yet, though I believe that is something that will be considered once the codebase has been adequately modernised.
I spend most of my day away from my desk so it’s not a blocking issue for me, I just use my laptop standalone at my desk, might consider swapping my 4K monitor for a 1080p one from my work.
Yep, completely tear free! :)
If you extend your quote to the full context:
Anybody who’s treating others nicely is welcomed.
So their stance is entirely neutral, they make no explicit effort either direction which I believe in their eyes is discrimination.
As a transgender non-binary omnisexual individual, frankly I couldn’t really give a toss.
It’s important to keep in mind that a project, especially an open-source one, is not one voice. Sure, there may be more public-facing figures who may give a project bad PR, but you have to remember the countless people behind that person, and treat a project by it’s actions not it’s prose.
I am also not trying to “convince” you to “join” this project, not everything is a competition. I am sharing my desktop, which I believe is cool because it’s running on a fork of
xorg-xserver, that is the purpose of this community.

1·1 month agoOf course, NASA ain’t modelling actual missions in KSP.
I imagine KSP is simple Newtonian physics which is accurate at macro-scales, whereas obviously NASA is going to use Einstein’s equivalent. Far more computationally intense but really important once you scale up the small errors in Newton’s equations.

2·1 month agoThat makes sense, floating-point precision falls apart with large numbers but is pretty good with small numbers.
Perhaps there’s a mod that can swap out the position system to use doubles instead of floats? But I’m pretty sure that’s a Unity thing with its Transform positioning system so that’d be quite a challenge to change.
