Yes, klinkers aren’t laid directly on the ground, it usually has a layer of sloped gravel and another layer of sand/fine gravel compacted with a vibrating plate, which prevents water pooling between and beneath them in the first place

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Hoboken goes 9 years without a traffic death while LA gives upEnglish
2·18 days agoI’m glad to hear that, I think it wasn’t documented last time I searched for it, but it works, as seen here: https://fedecan.ca/en/guide/lemmy/for-users/markdown
I’ll update the post

8·18 days agoThis comment actually got me curious, so I found these numbers for cities with population around ~1.1 to ~1.4mi
Can you guess which cities are actively investing in their vision zero programs and reforms?
Lemmy doesnt like tables, so I’m sorry in advance:
Numbers normalized to 100,000 population
Deaths per 100k City Country Source 0 Helsinki FIN 1 0.36 Oslo NOR 2 3.70 Amsterdam NLD 3 4.20 Porto PRT 4 4.38 Adelaide AUS 5 4.59 Chihuahua MEX 6 8.64 Florianopolis BRA 7 9.39 Mendoza ARG 8 14.15 Valparaiso CHL 9 16.01 Jacksonville USA 10 I was going to try go get 5 cities per continent, but I ran out of time. I think we already can get a good picture.
Population taken from 2025 numbers https://worldpopulationreview.com/cities which says it sources from https://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/ (currently down for maintenance). It was not ideal to use 2025 numbers, but differences would be minimal based on annual growth
Latest source data available was used, which is around 2022-2025. There are PDF links, open with caution

2·20 days agoIt really depends on your location and it could even include native grasses. I’d even recommend creating a post in the community asking for help so it gets more visibility
It is okay if you still need to have grass for children/high traffic areas, you don’t need to remove it all, as even small patches with native plants can make a big difference

Technology@lemmy.world•In Asia, the global oil crisis is turning into an everything crisisEnglish
30·22 days agoI’m not sure if that is accurate, as Brazil is also a high humidity tropical country, which does not have all those plastic layers in their products and their plastic is way slimmer than those I’ve seen used in Asia.
As far as I am aware, they also have one of the biggest and most diverse ant populations, yet their biscuits are as crispy as any without all the extra plastic
Has there been any other games around here before?

21·27 days agoFrom the top of my head, there are:
City of Amsterdam https://social.amsterdam.nl/
Baden-Württemberg https://bawü.social/
Netherlands https://social.overheid.nl/
Germany https://social.bund.de/
France https://social.numerique.gouv.fr/
EU Commission https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/Switzerland had a pilot project, but I don’t know what happened to it
I’m pretty sure there are more local governments with their own instances or plans to do it , specially after all the digital sovereignty discourse got some boost to it
We’ll need another post to know more about those fruit trees as well

But the other stuff is nasty. Total of petrochemicals in a tyre is above 60%. That fabric, carbon black, oils, elastometers, textiles, antioxidantes and additives are all based on petroleum too
