Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Remember when car controls weren't complicated
18·25 days agoI remember when my car didn’t have a giant ipad that tries to talk to me, miss it too.
Obviously, getting zero pussy made them gay or asexual
Right?
The world’s leaders looked at history, and instead of saying “we won’t make these mistakes again”, they said “we can do it better”.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon is forcibly upgrading Prime members to Alexa Plus, and users are not happyEnglish
52·2 months agoForced upgrades (or downgrades) really are the worst. Same for opt-out services instead of opt-in. Give choice back to the customer goddammit!

Losing your house is great for reconnecting with nature I guess
First angle was already nice, but now I’m jealous that I don’t get views like that 🥲

Superbowl@lemmy.world•New species status for South American owl after two centuries of debate (A new Spectacled Owl!)
7·2 months agoI can’t read the full article because it’s paywalled, but still, nice to see this issue being resolved. Now, stupid question, but do you have any idea which species concept they used for this study?

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Once beset by pollution, Beijing's skies are clearer than ever thanks to EVsEnglish
17·2 months agoThere’s more than just CO2 coming from combustion engines though, like nitrogen and sulfur containing compounds, which can in turn cause secondary pollution. Cumulatively, I think those pollutants have a bigger effect on human health than the road particles. Also, these road particles still get ripped up by regular cars, even if it’s to a lesser extent. So overall I’m still convinced that EVs are a step in the right direction. We can’t know for sure until more studies are performed.

22·2 months agoI’d imagine the amount of road particles ripped up is less than the amount of CO2, NOx, ozone and other pollutants and fine particles emitted by combustion engines, but I’m no expert. Only time will tell, but at least short-term the results seem positive.

44·2 months agoLike all countries, there’s some good and bad things to say, but I think that investing in renewables was a very smart move on their part.

49·2 months agoIt’s always nice to see some good news in the shitshow that is modern day life, makes me hopeful that a better future is still possible. I hope that one day Beijing (and the rest of the world) can go back to clean air 365 days a year.
