Wife and I live in Germany, but still have some streaming services from our home country in Eastern Europe.

We started a Scream movie marathon on the weekend to catch up on the series, before we watch the newest one in cinema.

We watched the first 2, and half of the 3rd on 28th February Saturday on one of the streaming platforms (SkyShowtime). The next morning (1st of March), the movies were not available anymore.

We finished 3 and watched 4 on Amazon Prime, but within that we had to start a separate subscription for horror movies.

5 was only available in German with no subtitles, so I had to search for another source. Ended up creating a Paramount+ account, downloaded the app, and watched the movie there.

Then back to Amazon Prime, where finished the 6th Scream movie, before heading to the local cinema.

This was the last straw, we decided to go back to sail the seas after a decade of streaming service subscription. Next weekend I will take some time to figure out the setup we need to make this happen safely, as a lot has changed since I left it behind.

But that was not enough for him, he wanted to hoard hundreds of billions of wealth instead, so here we are. How perfectly healthy and in no way a mental illness.

Your CEO will pay the biggest consulting firms millions so he can fire you. It doesn’t matter if the AI can do your job, nobody gives a shit. It’s enough if either your boss believes it, or he thinks he can dupe the investors into believing it.

Also, software development is already the best possible use case for LLMs: you need to build something abiding by a set of rules (as in a literal language, lmao), and you can immediately test if it works.

In e.g. a legal use case instead, you can jerk off to the confident sounding text you generated, then you get chewed out by the judge for having hallucinated references. Even if you have a set of rules (laws) as a guardrails, you cannot immediately test what the AI generated - and if an expert needs to read and check everything in detail, then why not just do it themselves in the same amount of time.

We can go on to business, where the rules the AI can work inside are much looser, or healthcare, where the cost of failure is extremely high. And we are not even talking about responsibilities, official accountability for decisions.

I just don’t think what is claimed for AI is there. Maybe it will be, but I don’t see it as an organic continuation of the path we’re in. We might have another dot com boom when investors realize this - LLMs will be here to stay (same as the internet did), but they will not become AGI.

LLM’s supposedly scrape almost everything immediately. I read a post about a guy who was setting some webpage for his own use, and got instantly overrun by crawlers - even though he never advertised or shared his page anywhere
