I’ve got some resources available, plenty of bandwidth, and could possibly help out depending on needs. I also don’t know much about hosting fediverse stuff, but I do have some of my own stuff and services I host already.
Its terrible how the auto industry responds with “we’ll install pedestrian sensors with auto braking” instead of trimming back the massive sizes and 50% bigger blind spots. And go figure they cost about the same to make, yet charge so much extra money… No wonder the avg vehicle is over $50k, cuz trucks and SUVs have surpassed 70k on avg smh.
Can confirm. For years, my pt night job was working a video store for the free rentals to “make recommendations” to customers. I didn’t have time to watch them all, so I’d rip to watch later, then used certain sites to share. I usually made direct 1:1 copies bc my PC wasn’t well equipped to remix or transcode. Thankfully, I had a school nearby that would offer free used equipment instead of paying for disposal, so I often had extra computers in doing the work on my broadband connection 😅 (I think 1.5-3Mbs).
I did often burn to DVDs as a backup bc external HDDs were expensive and discs were cheap. I did this for years, often releasing online the Friday or Saturday before DVD releases Tuesdays. If only Plex existed back then haha.

Some drives are older. My 8TBs are 2019 enterprise SAS and are meant to be on all day. They don’t get much workout cuz once full they’re not doing a ton of writing. So they’ll last. Lady year picked up several 16TBs before the price jumped. Thankful I pay attention and jumped on it when I did!
I’ve ripped all ~2.5kDVDs, ~1.2k BD, and ~600 4K BD (plus several dozen 3D) I keep pretty high quality copies, strip multi lang or auto tracks and stick to higher DTS or Dolby, strip subtitles, etc.
Crazily, I keep a 2nd “older” 7700K for playing the DVD and BD content for friends and family, I do the better stuff for me and a couple friends who actually care about quality. Now I need to add JF alongside Plex and Emby just bc.
Heck yeah!! Good to know as I have nearing 100TB of storage 😅. Would be nice to shave that down a little!
