Why would you assume that paper means punch cards? Printers can store far more than a machine word on a page, are relatively cheap, and are widely available. For some things, this can be superior to both magnetic and flash storage.

At least, not for the sorts of games I tend to play. I spend longer than that just working through initial technical issues, configuration, and (in games that have one) the character generator.
I have to conclude that Steam’s return window is either intended to be just enough to see if you can get it running, or as much as Valve could talk publishers into tolerating.

Unfortunately, it loses on data density.

Seems to me that crying liberal bias is just a lie behind another a lie.
Education tends to counter authoritarianism/fascism.

TIPS TO REDUCE EXPOSURES TO BISPHENOLS IN RECEIPTS:
- DO NOT compost or recycle receipts and other thermal paper. BPA & BPS residues from receipts will contaminate recycled paper.
- Minimize receipt collection by declining receipts at gas pumps, ATMs and other machines when possible.
- Never give a child a receipt to hold or play with.
- After handling a receipt, wash hands before preparing and eating food.
- Do not use alcohol-based hand cleaners after handling receipts. A recent study showed that these products can increase the skin’s BPA absorption.
- Take advantage of store services that email or archive paperless purchase records.
- Store receipts separately in an envelope in a wallet or purse.
HAZARDS FOUND IN LABORATORY TESTS INCLUDE:
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Early Puberty
- Cardiovascular system disorders
- Abnormal reproductive system development
- Hormone abnormalities in children
- Susceptibility to various cancers
- Resistance to chemotherapy
- Diminished intellectual capacity

So this AI is apparently not operating a nuclear plant, which would be concerning.
For now, the artificial intelligence tool named Neutron Enterprise is just meant to help workers at the plant navigate extensive technical reports and regulations — millions of pages of intricate documents from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that go back decades — while they operate and maintain the facility.
Ah, that makes more sense. I hope it doesn’t end up leading humans away from correct understanding of safety regulations.

I run into video-link-only posts in text forums on Lemmy every so often, and IMHO, they contribute little more than noise. There’s nothing wrong with encouraging their authors to at least add a summary or start a conversation about the subject matter. Without that, video links that aren’t of obvious widespread interest usually feel like they’re treating the rest of us as a click farm, whether we’re vision-impaired or not.
Not much of a trailer, but I think it qualifies as a teaser.

Make the jump to Linux?English5·15 days agoHave you considered making a Linux virtual machine now, and learning small things a few minutes at a time between other tasks? That ought to give you a head start when it comes time to commit.
It makes perfect sense to me that people who suffer abuse or neglect when young would develop a deep-rooted drive to look out for themselves first and foremost. It would be (literally, socially, and emotionally) a survival mechanism. Unfortunately, it would leave less room than others might have for empathy.
I don’t imagine this would ever go away completely, even if their situation improved by adulthood.
