  • This reminds me of ELIZA, a natural language processing program from the 60’s that induced what they coined as the ELIZA effect, a tendency to anthropomorphize the computer. Joseph Wizenbaum, the computer scientist who created ELIZA, wrote Computer Power and Human Reason: From Judgment to Calculation in which he contends that while artificial intelligence may be possible, we should never allow computers to make important decisions, as they will always lack human qualities such as compassion and wisdom.

Most people STILL have no concept of how digital mass surveillance functions, what it can do, and how it can be used to manipulate them right now, today. Now, it’s common practice to pour your heart out to and have intimate extended relationships with AI systems controlled by the very same corporate surveillance complex.

The danger is not that AI will become self aware and turn against humanity, it is that people will not realize that it has already been turned against us by its masters.

  • Well put. Marshner is essentially a televangelist - by “preaching the gospel”, she secures her endowment of wealth and immunity from religious prosecution. This system typifies the Trump regime, expanded to other things that people prone to magical thinking worry about - conspiracy theories, vaccines, folk medicine, etc.

It’s effective directly because it gives believers every chance to carry and spread a believable and reassuring lie, and to disregard or attack outsiders who try to inject rationality. Essentially, a cult.

  • The religious are obsessed with this because enforcement of “the nuclear family” offers them a wedge of control into the private lives of others. Marriage and children are under influenceable legislation by the state, which is why these people FREAK out when you mess with those legal institutions with things like marriage equality and abortion.

The ones at the top need the power to stay relevant and wealthy, and the flock eats up the flowery nonsense language about “faith” and “God’s plan.”

  • I recommend Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC, which is supported until 2032 and has never required me to update my fucking clock or calculator, never crashed my SSD, and never randomly encrypted my hard drive and lost the recovery keys! And, there’s no OneDrive, Copilot, Recall, Cortana, Clippy, or whatever else Microsoft’s cocaine addled executives have come up with this week to FUCK us.

Since thats the standard for operating systems we’re working with now, I’d say this one is pretty good!

Here’s how you can purchase your copy today!

  • “You want some of this?” Mr. Dousten yelled, according to the affidavit…

…Mr. Dousten then fired a single shot that hit Ms. Hermosillo’s car, breaking the window of the front passenger seat where she was sitting, and striking her in the face, it said.

He “fired a shot in a random direction,” the police said in an email obtained on Wednesday. “Tragically, that bullet struck a passenger in an uninvolved vehicle.”

…Ms. Hermosillo’s partner drove her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the police said.”

This is unbelievably sad. Can you imagine what her partner must have gone through? They’ll be haunted by this for the rest of their life. Her family is crushed. She was 27.

How is it that someone so out of control of their emotions that they carry a loaded gun and wave it carelessly during traffic confrontations is able to access firearms?

  • Civil disobedience is a peaceful way to protest unfair laws when the regular methods of changing the law are too restricted or too slow to protect the civil rights of citizens. Civil disobedience in this case would be refusing to check out or read books that they find objectionable, if the government were to mandate that they be read.

You could make the argument that government is mandating this content if public schools assign it to students, but there is no real punishment under the law for rejecting a school assignment. It’s that they don’t want YOU to have access to this information, which is the opposite of civil disobedience: oppression. If the government were to mandate the removal of this content, as these citizens would like, the act of disobedience would be to read the books.

This is stealing from a public library.
