Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters has dubbed Ed Sheeran a “p****” who has “done the wrong thing” amid the ongoing controversy over Macklemore being pulled as a support act from Sheeran’s tour after expressing solidarity with Palestinians on stage.
For anyone who doesn’t want to watch the included video: p**** = prick
Edit for formatting
2nd Edit: I have just learned that Waters has very publicly supported Putin in the war on Ukraine saying, that Putin governs carefully and makes decisions based on consensus? So it’s pricks all around in this story.
Censoring “prick” as “p****” makes it sound a lot worse than it actually is. I can think of other five-letter words starting with P…
The word is PUSSY right? Like PRICK they can be used on the internet.
That’s what I expected but in the video he actually calls him a prick. I left it censored in the headline just to be true to the original on the source.
I’m not sure if the mods allow it, but journalistically I believe using “… p[rick]” or “… p**** [prick]” would have been a clearer way to include it.
A mod bot might be too dumb to get it though, not sure.
Yeah, prick isn’t what I was expecting it to be either, though I’d accept either of the two obvious options as accurate. 😀
Oh it was prick? I thought it was pussy lol
Uh I know! Is it a prawn?
Fookin’ prawns
*Fokken prawns.
He’s actually speaking the world’s (probably) youngest language - Afrikaans. South African Dutch.
Penis?

Waters is a fucking prick for siding with Russia over their genocide of Ukraine.
I hadn’t hear this so I looked it up. You aren’t kidding.
The veteran Pink Floyd rocker, Roger Waters, has addressed the UN security council at Russia’s invitation, and called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. But he was denounced by the Ukrainian ambassador as “just another brick in the wall” of Moscow’s propaganda.
…
The Russian delegation’s invitation followed an interview Waters had given to the Berliner Zeitung in which he had been highly complimentary towards Vladimir Putin, who he said, according to a translation on his own website, “governs carefully, making decisions on the grounds of a consensus in the Russian Federation government”.
What the fuck. Putin governs carefully and makes decisions based on consensus? I guess you’re right. It’s pricks all around.
the thing with Waters is that he’s an oldschool conspiracy nut - so for every reasonable point he makes about 50-100 bullshit points that negate one good point he makes every now and then. He could’ve said stopped at ceasefire without elaborating and it would’ve been naive but benign - but he decided to elaborate and it was downhill.
At least he’s not making documentaries whitewashing the dictators like Oliver Stone.
But he was denounced by the Ukrainian ambassador as “just another brick in the wall”
Savage.
At least he wasn’t Amused to Death
Putin
someone tells me waters is being paid as a shill to be the face of his propaganda, much like others: tulsi, seagull, etc.
I lean more towards Putin having kompromat on them.
Is it lead poisoning or something making these people who should absolutely know better, show their whole arse?
He might be a prick for a whole lot of reasons, but he’s right about Palestine.
IMO it makes it better. If this is too wrong for waters then you know Sheeran fucked up bad.

Also: Waters supports Russia, so they’re both *****
I like to think there are levels to Pickery
Roger Waters
Oh boy, this is going to invite some hot takes in the comments.
Why’s that?
A controversial figure. Very out spoken against Israel, but has sided with Russia in a few occasions. While he did call Russia’s invasion of Ukraine illegal, he stated that the West were provocateurs. Also there’s the whole Waters versus Gilmour battle over the years.
he’s said far more than “the west were provocateurs”. https://piefed.social/comment/12993281 he is a kremlin supporter and i’d say a tankie
Is he controversial because he has nuanced opinions?
I would say a lot of people would claim someone is controversial if their opinions differ. Roger is complicated, some would say he’s on the spectrum, (I think some people would say we’re all on the spectrum though), but everyone is complicated.
this entire reply chain has been too charitable in representing his opinions. see my other comment
you definitely shouldn’t have gotten these downvotes though. the person you replied to made him sound fairly tame
Around here, yes, that’s not permitted. See how you’re being downvoted for even asking?
He’s also very passionate about exposing his views and says exactly what his uncharitable opinions are about people. He’s intense to the point of being rude, in other words, so people react more strongly to him and that makes him a more controversial figure.
Depends on your perspective
IIUC, he denies there’s a genocide against the Uighurs.
I knew it was over for Sheeran when I read his excuses post on social media and he included a paragraph that started with “I am not complicit.”
If you have to come out publicly to argue you’re not complicit you’re probably complicit.

He is, too, he really both-sides’ed the whole situation and went on to do the tour even after every other act pulled out.
IDK what sort of cancellation fee they’re threatening him with but I think he had a great excuse for the courts when the producers and venues sabotaged his tour.
He’s a Putinist and an anti-vaxer.
has been a staunch Palestinian supporter. can’t win them all.
Love his music.
Fuck Putin. Free Palestine.
*Insert confused Jackie Chan face
Waters thinks all war, and imperialism, is bad.
Waters thinks that when the war started in Ukraine, Biden should’ve called Putin and told him to cut it out, because the US is a major world power. Waters thinks (or at least claimed at a concert) that Zelensky should be sitting down and making a deal with Putin for peace, because war is bad so ending it should always be the goal regardless of what you lose or give up… He didn’t say that last part, that’s me being uncharitable.
I mean, just listen to The Wall and realize he’s had almost 50 years to calcify on “War is Bad.”
Though, he does correctly point out that every modern US president is a war criminal.
Jackie Chan is another piece of shit, the CCP gave him a theatre chain to operate in China and now he works for them, he also opposes democracy in Hong Kong where he was born.
Thanks. I edited in the Putin information when I learned of it about an hour ago. Might not have propagated to your instance yet though.
literally “the worst person you know makes a fair point”
I agree. Ed Sheeran is a penis
even a broken clock is right twice each day…
Your underlying point is correct and I agree
But the pedant in me hates this saying. It’s almost never true. A clock broken in a very specific way is right twice a day, but how many clocks get broken like that? If they get smashed, and hands fall off, they can’t even show a valid time. Even then, they’re more likely to just run at the wrong speed, which makes it VERY unlikely they’ll show the correct time even once a day. Also most clocks are digital now! If those break, they show nothing!
Thank you for coming to my Tod Talk
It’s because the correct saying is “a stopped clock is right twice a day”.
That makes way more sense!
You used to have to wind up your clocks so having a stopped clock was a regular occurrence.
I have a mechanical wrist watch, so I do know this, but it’s got an automatic winding mechanism and I pretty much never take it off, so I rarely think about winding it except when it drifts too far. I really should have put 2 and 2 together before now. It never occurred to me to check that people were using the idiom correctly.
If you would have said “Thank you for coming to my Tick Talk” you would’ve won the internet! /s
Waters is a prick, fuck that guy.
Pot vs kettle here.
Also - Waters is still alive?
From appearance… maybe?
According to WP, he had his 83rd birthday this month.
Just the sentence “Rock legend slams Ed Sheeran” I immediately thought “let me guess, is it Roger Waters?”
Yup. Roger Waters. He’s an extreme tankie that thinks Russia was in the right in invading Ukraine.
Of course that whack job would feel the need to weigh in.
I wish Roger Waters was more like Ed Sheeran and tried to stay out of political discussions they don’t know much about. Many musicians live completely different lifestyle than the rest of us and may not be the best moral arbitrators or be the best at doing analysis of geopolitics.
But since we’re on the dumbest timeline, maybe Macklemore needs to weigh in on what he thinks of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine?
What does Beyonce think about Brexit? Does Taylor Swift have a position on Taiwan independence? These are important things to know when you’re listening to fucking music I guess.
I don’t agree with Roger Waters’ “the West is always in the wrong” worldview, but his music has always been heavily political and opinionated, and is better for it.
Not every band has something to say about society and the world at large, but Pink Floyd and Roger Waters certainly do.
These are important things to know when you’re listening to fucking music I guess.
Commercial musicians make music based on what the listeners want to hear. Genuine artists make music based on what they want listeners to hear.
One is marketing, the other is expression.
I find it ridiculous when either side tells artists that they need to stay out of politics or stay in their lane.
I don’t agree with most of what Roger Waters says, but I will defend to the death his right to say it, in his music and otherwise. I think that’s healthy and absolutely neccessary.
I will also defend the right for me to say what I personally think about all the things he has the right to say. Like that it’s too bad he’s some idiot tankie who doesn’t think Putin has to respect those kind of rights in his country, and how I think that makes him a piece of shit and complicit in Putin’s evil. He can still say it though, that’s his right, and I like it when pieces of shit advertise themselves.
Is it any less ridiculous to not respect someone when they choose to be apolitical? Do you think someone isn’t a “genuine artist” when they’re apolitical?
That’s what’s happening here isn’t it? Ed Sheeran doesn’t want to be involved with politics and is being bullied for “not taking a side.”
Macklemore and those billionaires put Sheeran in the middle of the argument. But you don’t get to not pick a side when one side is literally supporting the wanton murder of innocent men, women, and children. I don’t think you can be a member of society and remain apolitical when innocent people are being slaughtered.
Is that unfair to Sheeran? Maybe, but I don’t care. The guy is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and the loss of this tour is not any more than an inconvenience for him. I side with the innocent children gaza being killed by snipers.
It’s not unfair. Imagine if we applied the same logic to the duty to report child abuse: “I’m apolitical, and I want to remain neutral. I don’t want to get involved, I just want to do my job and nothing more. I shouldn’t have to report abuse of a child if I don’t want to. It’s not my fault they’re getting abused, actually it’s unfair to make me get involved in something like this even if I know it is wrong, because it might have consequences for me if I say something about it. Obviously I’m sad the children are getting abused but they should find some other way to deal with that which doesn’t involve me.”
A very good point.

Sheeran cancelling Macklemore’s involvement in his tour based on the stadium owner’s political views of Macklemore’s political views seems pretty “involved with politics” to me. He was definitely put in a situation where he had to pick a side, but Robert Kraft put him there, not the public who are reacting to his decision-making.
I think the best way for Sheeran to stay above the politics is to simply sit back, say nothing and let his opening acts say whatever they want to say.
So if someone has a large platform, they shouldn’t advocate for ending a genocide? Clearly you’ve never paid attention to music in your life. So much music is deeply political. Entire bands are strictly political. You sound like one of those MAGA supporters that’s surprised when they find out RATM hates cops. Acting like musicians should stay out of politics is a fucking absurd take. Even this event of Macklemore being censored is a highly political moment. That being said, fuck Roger Waters for backing one genocide while decrying another. And fuck Ed Sheeran for having no spine.
So if someone has a large platform, they shouldn’t advocate for ending a genocide?
Donald Trump was someone people knew from entertainment. The entertainment TV show he was on made people think he was a good businessman or whatever. Do you think Trump successfully converting his notoriety in entertainment into political power was a good thing?
I remember Gina Corano making comments relating the treatment of conservatives to genocide. Do you think she was correct for making comments she felt was related to a genocide? She was fired for those comments, was that wrong?
Personally I just don’t want to be thinking about the batshit things Gina Corano said when I’m trying to watch Star Wars. She has a right to say what she wants, but it negatively impacted her ability to entertain me.
So much music is deeply political.
Nah, pretty sure most music is about fucking. Either you haven’t listened to a lot of music, or more likely, are being intellectually dishonest in an effort to impress your peers in your little hate group.
Speaking of MAGA, this is as ridiculous as boycotting Bud Lite for making a novelty can with a trans person on it one time. Same as them, you’ve been directed by social media to hate something for stupid reasons and so you have to fall in line because of social pressures. You’re the exact same kind of person as the MAGA people, just the algorithms show you a different set of hate mongers that have different targets for you to hate.
Personally I don’t care about what Roger Waters, Ed Sheeran, or Macklemore think about complex geopolitical issues. Political discussion shouldn’t be dominated by non-serious people in the entertainment industry. Roger Waters and Donald Trump are in alignment on Russia, and I think they are both idiots. They’re entertainment people, it’s fine for them to be idiots… unless they start using their fame to push their ignorant takes on how the world is. Crossing that line from entertainment fame into politics creates a whole lot of problems.

If I went to school for journalism, and my editor told me I needed to use the word slams in my headlines, I’d start looking into careers in woodworking.
“Hit 'em with a chair! Flying elbow! HE’S GETTING THE LADDER, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.”
We have a Roger Waters style far-right politician in Romania. Her name is Diana Sosoaca. She’s pro-palestine and a close friend to Russia. Appears on Russian TV regularly. She’s terrible and a true anti-semite. She is pro-palestine literally because she is anti-semitic. She’s also in legal trouble for promoting fascism.
Oh, I remember this weirdo. Behaves like someone who’s desperate for attention and drama, no matter the cost.
You’re not pro-Palestine if you’re antisemitic. Palestine has always been multiethnic and multicultural until Zionists started enacting their plans of ethnic cleansing.
Ah, that’s more Tucker like
Don’t tell her most Palestinians are Semitic too.
Don’t think that’s what you’re saying, but Waters isn’t antisemitic, just to make that clear
A complete POS called Sheeran a name and is right. You are really at low point when that asshole Waters calls you out and is right.
