But investment funds bought whole industries, destroyed competition and pumped prices.

    Government looking to the side.

That’s right, good guy trump would never let his administration impede the market’s price setting mechanism. That’s why the admin totally did NOT use Euros to buy Japanese yen, or us bonds to control bond interest rates. And they definitely are not talking about diesel export bans to control the price of diesel. Good guy free market trump would NEVER do anything to mess woth good ol supply and demand! /s obviously

This is typical. Overload buzzwords like “communism” and “socialism” and people think they’re bad words without being able to describe why.

Didn’t Donald Trump himself talk about caping credit card interest rates? He was lying obviously but I do remember him saying it.

I miss when reading from top-to-bottom was standard. Now, occasionally, we have to read middle-to-bottom-to-top-to-middle.

These assholes wouldn’t know communism if it walked right up and seized their means of production. Taking care of your own people just means you’re doing a good job as a government.

      EXACTLY!

All those things that the meme mentions are something that the government should be looking into regardless of what economy they institute!

      I’m paying $2,000 a month for a three bedroom that shouldn’t cost anywhere above $1100 a month!

I went to home Depot last night bought some cockroach traps, Teflon tape a plunger and a short length of stainless steel tubing for $30. What’s up on tables 98 cents the plunger was $4 the box of cockroach traps was eight bucks and the length of tubing was $15! And none of the prices make any sense!

These republicans are shooting themselves in the foot. When the most milquetoast reforms imaginable get called communism, it doesn’t make progressivism less popular, it just makes communism sound good.

Cap top-end wages by regulating a minimum wage that can be no less than 5% of the top pay in that company, (and calling out shell companies so we don’t get a situation where the CEOs’ are technically “managing consultants” to avoid this rule.)

During the 1950-60s (the best period for income inequality) CEO pay was ~30x the company average. If you want to key the limit to the company minimum as percentage of maximum, something between 1-2% would get you to a good place.

edit: A possibly better option would be to tax executive compensation in a way that you don’t tax payroll. Though I don’t know enough to suggest the details with that.

I usually go with 3% when I pitch this idea, But since ole’ Elmo the South African Goose Stepping Space Ass was an actual Trillionaire for a hot second back there, I felt a modest revision may have been more impactful.

Uh, that’s easy. Progressive taxation, above whatever amount the % increases drastically.

That’s different. That’s based purely on the amount. And I’m not just talking about salary, but compensation, including stock options, expense accounts, and other benefit packages that executives get beyond salary.

I did 6th, 7th and 8th grade in small town Oklahoma 20 years ago so I have first hand experience. Curious to know how bad it’s gotten since the advent of classroom iPads and ai, especially since they’ve maintained their bottom rankings.

My 8th grade geography teacher was the wrestling coach. He had a projector with slides that matched the text book, and would just scroll through then reading off the screen so class. All of our assignments were in the textbook, which also has the answers printed in them. And that is what he used to grade the assignments. I got an award for “excellence in geography” at the end of the year, but I know for a fact it’s because I was in his class first in the mornings and I set up the projector for him because he didn’t know how. A bunch of my classes were similarly struggling.

I feel bad for the teachers looking back, they were doing their best but had fuckall to work with.

This tweet is extremely funny if you’re aware of the fact that Richard Nixon also instituted price controls.

Nixon is, indeed, too far left to be accepted by the modern RNC.

Calling progressives Communists and Marxists started with Hitler. Even after the war it was carried on by Fascists. From Wikipedia:

    Origins

The phrase “cultural Marxism” to mean a cultural attack from the left aimed at destroying society and installing Marxism/Bolshevism can be traced back to the 1930s, appearing in the 1938 July-September volume of “British Union Quarterly”, the journal of The British Union of Fascists.[11][12] The short essay claims the source of cultural Marxism is the “deracinated” nature of “city-dwelling”, and the “indiscriminate toleration-psychosis of liberalism, inherent in Social-Democracy”.[11][13]

It’s not pointed out enough that Conservatism is Cultural Fascism.

So long as there have been communists there’s been people accusing everyone to their left of being communists.

Wikipedia describes the first Red Scare as happening in 1917, after the Soviet revolution and WWI. But you can also look at labor movements before that. For example, in the Haymarket Affair in 1886, someone in a crowd threw a bomb at a police officer during a protest, which has been speculated to have been a plant. The point was to smear the whole labor movement as anarchists and communists, as violent radicals, even though many of them were not.

But we can go even further back, in 1848, the opening lines of the Communist Manifesto are:

A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies.

Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?

Karl Marx himself is already talking about how every center-left opposition party is accused of being communist, and about how those same center-left parties will hurl the same accusations at parties to their left, and even against parties to their right (“reactionary adversaries”).

Yes, the Nazis branded progressives as communists, and the Nazis did come up with things like “Cultural Marxism,” but they were hardly the first ones in history to do it.
