I was in my teens, I think, the first time a friend said they liked black licorice. I really thought they were kidding, just blew my mind. I mean, if you like something, you like it, can’t really argue with that. Still.
I’m the opposite. Cannot stand a hint of licorice or anise in any shape or form. It had made me genuinely gag in the childhood. Nowadays it’s just unpleasant to an extreme degree.
P.S.:
I’m not dunking on the thing. If you like, you like. Good for you.
I don’t understand. I honestly love black licorice.
They wouldn’t even make it if no one liked it. I also like dishes that use fennel or anise.
Always have and always will. Red licorice is the garbage one.

I think the flavor is too strong on its own for people to appreciate, but you may be surprised how it has been used in dishes you loved.
I also love licorice =)
I really like licorice root tea, and when I was a kid I’d take the seeds out of star anise pods and suck on them XD
Also a black licorice fan. Got to try a Dutch licorice pipe once and it was great.
Red licorice isn’t even licorice.
