Hard, 6.6 mi loop
2,661 ft elevation gain
Hiked 8/2/25
One of the five 4k peaks in Vermont, this hike has great views of the surrounding area on a clear day. Moderate for the majority of the hike, some mild scrambling on bare rock is needed to get to the top. Taking the Alpine route down adds more scrambling, but also a look at crashed bomber from 1948.
Looking Northwest from the top of Camel’s Hump. The Alpine route lies below and involves some bouldering once you get to the lower rocky section.
A tree is growing out of the wing section from the crashed B-24 Liberator, circa 1948.
Vertical shot of some Ghost Pipes growing in the underbrush.
I’ve climbed Camel’s Hump! It was a humid day and I remember how glorious it was to get to the alpine section because it finally cooled down. Beautiful peak with a wonderful view
Yeah, it was a really enjoyable hike! Good breeze at the top for me as well, but muggy before that haha.
I’ve done all the 4000 footers in VT.
Fun fact, camels hump can be seen from mt Lafayette all the way in NH.
Did you visit the plane wreck? It’s maybe 0.2 mi from where this (title) photo is taken. I’ll give you coordinates if you’re interested 😀
Hell yeah! I managed to get two done while there, but that was all. Enjoyed the hell out of both. Did Lafayette a couple days later (tomorrow’s post I think), but I definitely could not see that far, more like a few hundred feet haha. And yeah I checked out the wreck on the way back down, pretty sweet.
