The moderation team would stay the same. We’ll keep a pinned post here to say we are moving.
We’ll promote it on [email protected] and [email protected]
Impact for people here would be minimal. We can even ping regular posters and commenters like https://lemmy.world/post/24312613
We can always revisit later if needed.
You can vote below about this decision. We’ll see what the decision is in 24h hours.
Vote extended to Monday evening US time
The pinned posts seem like a solvable problem: just pin fewer posts. Point taken on different mod teams.
I’m not sure a significant number of people are interested in movies and not TV, and I’m not sure how that’s known except perhaps by subscriber counts (but maybe there was a poll I missed?). I would start from the assumption that there’s significant overlap, but I have no real way of verifying that.
I’m not opposed to the separation of movies and TV in principle. I’m mainly just concerned about how long it would take to rebuild that community.

So there is definitely a population. It is actually a quite popular community on its own on the whole platform with 2.28K users / week and 3.56K users / month. You can see it on https://lemmyverse.net/communities?order=active, it’s in the top 50, and only being dedicated on movies content.
Those are needed to have both the regular discussion thread and the permanent redirection thread to other relevant communities.
I am. I mostly only watch TV. I definitely know lots of people who only watch movies and only care to follow movie updates and discussions.
I mean movies isn’t going anywhere, and one of the communities here - moviesandtv despite the higher subscriber numbers is kinda dead.
