  • I hope that this is not hyperbole, but that you american democrats are actively considering it. I briefly scanned the no stupid questions Lemmy community, and as a non-american, a lot of this has me worried. There is so much terror from ICE. I’ll post on X, arguing against the barrage of misinformation about my country from MAGA supporters, and there will be occasional Americans calling “Please help us!” to EU citizens.

You may need to start stocking a bit more in the pantry. Start talking to your neighbors in case the insanity starts to land on your doorstep. Consider what options you have in terms of the second amendment. During his first term it may have seen like a fluke, but with the growing inequality, harsher policies, economic protectionism…

Elon Musk on X is attempting to start a grassroots movement for implement voter ID. What will this grassroots movement turn into under Trump? Trump is “jokingly” talking about canceling the midterms. You may say he is not able to accomplish this, but who knows what will happen? The divide between democrats and republicans are now so large that it may lead to civil war if it continues.

People dismiss these things. It seems like a slow moving train wreck. It feels like something that only happens on TV. We think there are rules and regulations to prevent it from happening. What rules? What regulations? Are there any left in the US that can’t be bought or intimidated?

  • My group plays 2014 edition, and already here I feel like every class perk is frontloaded and stacked really early. There doesn’t seem much point to level beyond 7-10 in some cases.

Also, there are so many extra rules, extra features, extra options that experienced DM’s will include that it’s intense to learn on top of also having to adjust to a new setting. In my 90’s DND group our homebrew rules tended more towards simplification in many ways. But maybe it’s just my nostalgia glasses.

None of it is a dealbreaker though, it’s just a different way of playing. The only thing I still don’t like is how excruciatingly long encounters sometimes take, with everyone having to go through a whole turn of deciding what they want to do, rather than declaring it up front like we used to.

My DM back then also did a lot to cut down how long combat took.

  • I quickly adjusted to the new AC rules, but classes and races sure have changed lol. Tieflings? Apparently they were a thing in Planescape, but I don’t remember them. And playable orcs, and Dragonborn surprised me too.

Also, so many magic wielders. With the old wizard style of magic, it felt a bit more rare and magical to me. Magic is almost too easy to come by in newer editions. Maybe its just me.

All in all, if feels like DND has exploded in a variety of options and possibilities which is cool. Also, old dual class system and multiclassing we never used at all. Newer systems actually seem solid.

  • Oh I wish those were still around here. As a kid, we had an actual mom and pop owned cornershop. I went there as a kid one time to buy my dad cigarettes, and back then people knew each other and they’d call my home line asking if I was allowed.

Shop closed because the gas station opened their own competing store, and a big brand supermarket moved in. These days I’d kill to be able to walk into a small store nearby and be able to grab locally grown produce and walk out of there.

  • During lower points of my life, I used to drink and smoke and watch his podcast. It felt like hanging out with a friend. But it sure isn’t a friend whose opinions I’d trust on anything. More like someone I’d shoot the shit with, and then completely ignore when he switches to serious topics. I believe he knows his stuff when it comes to martial arts, but beyond that I don’t care much for his takes. Sure, tell me about aliens and how a chimp could fuck me up. That’s what I’m here for. Keep the politics out of it.

  • I wish people would do thinking themselves, instead of aligning their beliefs with these influencers. Rogan is and has always been fucking weird. I like his interview style, he is good at interviewing rock stars and putting the spotlight on people who are critical of the system.

But damn dude… One thing is that he is so into Trump. The whole Alex Jones saga is even more crazy to me. He has spent so much time defending Alex Jones, who is just the epitome of this kind of nonsensical rambling. I mean, I literally have a diagnosis that leads me to experience psychosis, and even I can tell that many of the people he interviews are completely spinning.

How can he take people seriously on his show, when they are literally rambling off every insane impulse on politics out loud without a filter?

Edit: I should mention though that I respect Rogan for actually speaking out. People in the Trump cult are so afraid of criticizing him, and they go along with anything he says. It’s nice to see someone from that camp actually have a nuanced opinion.
