Well damn - I was looking to book a hotel at a location I’ve historically booked with Hilton. But since they’re out now, Marriott properties were on the short list but I guess they’re out now too.
Is this going to end up being one of those situations where all the players in the market are awful?
I do a lot road work, and often just need to stay in a hotel for a nights sleep and a shower, so I find the cheapest small town motels I can find.
Many Motel 6 and Super 8 motels have been remodeled, and are clean and decent. They aren’t fancy, but the beds are comfortable, and they usually have a fridge and microwave. I try to stay under $75, but a couple months ago, I found one in rural GA for only $37.
I spend a few minutes checking recent reviews on Google maps, weeding out those that sound sketchy, especially reports of bugs, and I’ve been pretty successful. Ive stayed in those places a couple of dozen times over the last couple of years, and haven’t seen a single bug.
nobody said it would be easy to avoid the nazis. you might have to stay farther away from your intended destination in order to not support nazis. and that may mean staying in a less desirable hotel as well. I’m willing to make those accommodations.
There’s more than one within 15 minutes of where I live, and the same was true when I lived in the OBX. They aren’t always as obvious as the Hampton Inns/Marriotts/Hiltons of the world, but they exist if you’re willing to put in the work looking and willing to make occasional compromises in location or amenities

I wonder what Hilton Corporate (at (972) 383-1400, option 3) would think of your comment.

Independent hotels and inns might be the move
Hate to break it you bud, but those haven’t existed for about about two decades now.
They do exist. They’re called boutique hotels now. There aren’t a lot, and some of them tend to be pretty expensive. But they’re out there.
there’s a lot less of them, that’s true
