I remember when Joe Rogan was going off on Biden for saying something stupid about naval ships or war or something. Then kept saying how he’s not suited for office.

Turns out Biden was quoting Trump.

Rogan obviously backpedaled on that statement being suitable for the office of the president of course.

Probably what’s gonna happen then. In a way I want the gop to win, because not, the rest of the world will cling on to hope that the US can recover and become at the very least as reliable as it was before. I don’t think it can

I really need people who say doomer shit like this to:

          1. Reflect on whether their words encourage solution-oriented thinking, or doomer thinking

          2. Learn emotional regulation

As an American I think the solution is for every other nation to work on excluding the the USA from everything they possibly can and get along without us. Trump’s administration has demonstrated that we cannot be relied on as trade partners, military partners, or anything else. Our word isn’t worth shit as long as our government is structured in a way that allows a new administration to come in and tear up everything that came before it. A blue wave isn’t going to fix things overnight. There is a hell of a lot of work to be done before we can be relied on again. It’s going to be years to fix things so we can be trusted again if it can happen at all.

I’ll see what I can do for you, boss.

I am not an american but I can only assume from your butthurt comment that you are, so I hope you apply that solution oriented thinking and l will go and convince other compatriots to go and vote or protest

“Butthurt” implies that I took your comment personally. I didn’t, because it wasn’t personal — it was a comment about the U.S., to which I feel no particular loyalty, and my issue with it is what pessimism like yours does when people express it out loud to strangers without offering solutions. Negativity akin to what you expressed has a paralyzing effect rather than a mobilizing effect.

Notice you answered my critique with a (poor) guess at the motivation behind my comment rather than a logical defense of your doomerism. Ad hominems only work on insecure people.

You literally said that you need me to do x and y. Y being learning emotional regulation. Now in your latest comment you also said you have an issue with pessimism like mine. When you discuss you and me that makes it obviously personal, so I’m not sure why the irony escapes you. However while a bit annoyed of this hypocrisy, the important fact is that you seem to have gotten lost in your own words and kept banging on about not providing a solution, when I clearly said voting and protesting would be the solution in a civilised society. I don’t know what else regular people can do, and I’m not hearing any suggestions from you either. Now go and do your civic duty and stop wasting peoples time on the internet with big words that mean nothing

The problem is without the logo its too believable which means its not satire enough and just made up news and not funny. Most likely just giving them ideas.

To be honest, I found the screenshot elsewhere and it didn’t even occur to me that it was an onion article because of how real it sounds, but I guess it adds to the comedic effect.

I’ll add an acknowledgement and it’s URL, since I can’t switch the image. But hey, at least I didn’t post it in c/nottheonion!

As a non-American, I’ve seen GOP used occasionally and never really checked what it meant (I assumed it was a US government acronym within the Republican party for something). I didn’t realise it was another name for the Republicans, and worse still that it stood for ‘Grand Old Party’. Wtf kinda dumb name is that

The name is entirely ironic for several reasons. 1) The democratic party is older than the republican party by 26 years. 2).They have been nicknamed the Grand Old Party since the 1870s despite being founded in 1854. 3) The name was granted specifically as praise to the party for leading the Union to victory against the Confederacy in the Civil War, while many GOP members and supports proudly fly the confederate flag nowadays. 4) When they were given that name, they were the progressive party (relatively speaking) fighting for federal economic protectionism and civil rights, while the democrats were the ones were fighting for states rights and free markets. Yet they pretend to identify with “The Party of Lincoln” and cling to the “GOP” moniker to maintain the illusion of any real connection there.

The good ole southern strategy, basically some politicians decided to appeal to racist cockwhombles in the south to get votes, which flooded the GOP with former southern democrats, which made the original GOP politicians to switch parties.

Basically the parties did one giant flip and ended up in the same place with different names.

huh, i would argue the democrats were pursuing a different type of federal economic protectionism that “coincidentally” lined up with making slavery legal in all 34 states.

          Free Enslaved Markets

FR, though. We are talking Post-War here. But while enslavement was illegal, they still had the next closest thing for a long time… indentureship through share cropping (debt bondage), forced child “apprenticeship” for orphans, vagrants, and kids they just stole from their parents, and leasing prisoners convicted of such crimes as unemployment, loitering, and changing employers.

Generations after the Civil War, people. 190,000 black children were re-homed and force to work in agriculture or domestic jobs until adulthood. Convict Leasing didn’t end in Alabama until 1928. Debt bondage wasn’t outlawed federally until 1966 over 100 years later. And only mostly because it had already faded with the mechanization of the Ag industry in the decade or two prior. That is well into the Baby Boomer era. This is still relatively recent history.

Guys, let’s stop quoting Trump. He says some really dumb and hateful stuff, so let’s not repeat it and remind people that electing him was a mistake that they can’t take back.

They did that completely unironically with Charlie Kirk, and it was more than urging. Reality outpacing The Onion yet again.
