When I was a manager at a tech company this pattern female white woman was about 50% of our entry-level team. Every single day was a new journey into essential oils, herbalife, astrological signs and dreamcatchers. Their racism is there, it is subtle, but it’s also entirely a product of trying to appease the angry people in their lives.

These women are dim enough to be led to ANY way of thought. And I say this with kindness, they are often good parents and have sympathetic lives and want simple things. But holy shit their families and husbands and partners are literally demons in human flesh influencing them to the worst ways of thinking and feeling, I’ve gotten to witness them in the background on zoom being violent pigs and screaming at their infant children loud enough to pick up on the mic through a closed door.

The one thing that you don’t see that is shockingly common though is the physical abuse. As funny as this cartoon is, it doesn’t show the finger-shaped bruises up and down the woman’s arms.

What about you? Is it 2/3 or 3/3? If you’re hetero that is, and in a couple. Otherwise disregard this question or answer untruthfully.

Him being a part of every third heterosexual couple must mean he has a lot of fem presenting partners. I’m sceptical of all of them being of an ethnicity he approves of…

Text should read “every third American couple”. I dont think this applies anywhere else and has anything to do with sexuality…

Eh, I’ve traveled a lot, and while people in places like the US west/east coasts tend to be a lot less racist, the entire middle/south of the US are just as racist as most places in Europe and Asia. Growing up, I was sold the narrative that European countries had little to no racism, and the US is the problem. But racism is everywhere, and not just the mild racism that the US coasts get, but like, openly telling a stranger to watch out for <insert racial slur> because they are going about ruining <neighborhood/city/country/etc.> I will say that anecdotally, the US west coast is the least blatantly racist, but you can see systemic racism literally everywhere.

Yeah, racism is considered normal in many parts of the world and you wouldn’t have a progressive spouse/partner, they’d both be racist.

… maybe you should talk to some minorities from other countries. I mean people who are minorities within their own country.

This definitely applies to a good number of gay couples in Texas too. Hetero Women do have it worse in this regard though. Progressive Southern woman’s options are pretty much:

        A) Be celibate

        B) Move somewhere else

        C) Settle for the Most Racist Man Alive

Single Hetero Progressive men are unicorns in the American South, and them being Progressive is no guarantee they will treat a woman any better. They often come with their own batch of issues and a lot of them are fuckboys.

Casting aspersions much? The vast majority of couples I know are hetero, and not one person is like either of these caricatures. Let’s not pretend sexual preference has anything to do with these stereotypes. It’s more likely to be the culture or social system you are familiar with.

Are you claiming to know a representative set of Americans, and 1/3 of that representative set is not racist?

      I think you’re suffering from selection bias…

queers are a lot less likely to do this shit though. for various reasons, many of them based around a much clearer self interest rather than some innate superiority. not that we aren’t also innately superior to the hets.

i have known racist queers but they aren’t hateful with their racism. i think it’s the hateful part that makes it different. one guy I am thinking about is black and prefers white guy partners. He will go off on all his lovers with different people and he just admits his preference is racist but he doesn’t talk bad about other races.

right. he is not The Most Racist Man Alive.

part of it is that straight cis and especially white men were targeted by nazi radicalization pipelines starting really hard in the 00’s on every major algorithm driven media platform, social and otherwise. queers mostly dodged that, partially because the character of modern racism tends to be paired with homophobia, and you can’t really nourish that socially without catching a lot of shit for being queer, but also because it just wasn’t targeted at us. they wanted little reinhardt heidrichs, not little ernst rohms, especially because the nazis had been working to recruit evangenlical christians for decades. evangelical christians: anti quer first, racist second. being racist and queer must be so fucking disempowering.

but also, we’re more resistant to it. part of the experience of being queer is stepping outside of norms, and to whatever degree swimming against the current, opting into a more marginal difficult position because it’s right/feels good/lets you genuinely survive without fucking killing yourself. and all of that makes being an open bigot a lot harder. not impossible, but harder. plus, we tend to be farther left politically because the conservative edifice of the nuclear family as nucleus of society has historically excluded a lot of us from society, and pushing that shit on someone who you want to fuck whose family threw them out is not a good way to get laid, even if yours was cool about it.

there’s also that genocide the american christofascists did to us within living memory. some people are still kinda bitter about that. many of the institutions and social forms we created to cope are still kicking around.

I think the gag is that this person reading Salon, a progressive media outlet, is a person claiming or projecting progressive values yet is dating a bigot. Progressive dating regressive.

Among Gen Z and Millennial Americans (especially the educated straight white middle class) there’s been a divergence in political affiliations between men and women. But people still couple up, so hetero couples are seeing a lot more combinations of politically engaged progressive women who are in relationships with politically apathetic men (who also tend to be somewhat sexist and racist).

This comic points out that juxtaposition.
