That poor woman carrying six kids…
In these cases (EDIT: and particularly the time period of this story) it’s almost always a lot of fertility drugs and implanted embryos, with parents unwilling to do selective reduction, as though the process had somehow been anything like natural up to that point. It’s a personal choice, and I’d never in a million years tell them not to weigh the risks for themselves because, y’know, pro-choice, but it does strike me personally as being needlessly risky.
Also, in true meme fashion, these kids are eight years old now, LOL.
If you remember Octomom her doctor had been repeatedly criticized for transferring too many embryos in IVF. He was trying to optimise the “pregnancies per transfer” metric. Like a surgeon that doesn’t want to operate on sick people in case they die and mess up their statistics.
Anyway, scroll down to Prevention in IVF to see some modern recommendations. There’s a neat little table and everything.
Glad to see the science is evolving. What wonderful things legitimate research and the scientific method are!
It is neither safe for her nor the kids
God: “You really wanted kids, and I tried to help you help yourselves, but you just wouldn’t pack it in. Now let’s see if this will temper your desire for offspring.”
“…Mwuhaha.”
