I used to work in insurance. This might actually be the biggest blow to Testla, even more than stock prices. If people keep vandalizing the vehicles, eventually the insurance has to come due. And repair costs are not cheap, its basically only dealers and a limited number of repair places that partner.
And insurance companies always make sure they get their money.
What kinds of vandalism are most costly to repair, without endangering the lives of drivers, passengers and people nearby? I want to see if those are mentioned in future news coverage.
IIRC, if one or two tires, or all four tires are damaged, insurance will cover it. But insurance won’t cover three tires being damaged if I understand correctly. So slash three tires per car.
I wouldn’t go after individual Tesla owners. It wasn’t always like this. They adopted the earliest and cheapest (in the US) EV. I won’t buy one now, but I would have three years ago.
I understand the dealership thing. Are most of them directly corporate?
Well, a 1:1 mixture of chlorine bleach and vinegar should damn near instantly and permanently corrode the steel. Don’t breathe the fumes, but I have toyed with the idea of a squirt gun filled with instarust.
DO NOT MIX BLEACH AND CHLORINE, unless you want die or seriously injure yourself. When bleach is combined with acetic acid it produces chlorine gas, a literal chemical weapon/warcrime. If you want to corrode stainless steel use regular bleach, it does the job just fine.
If you are using household concentrations you won’t generate enough chlorine gas to be harmful in a ventilated area, like outside. If you put it in a bag and huff it you are going to have a bad time, but enough to cause damage can be tossed into a mason jar, shaken, and thrown pretty safely.
Days might actually be better. If they go to work and come back to it rusted all over, they will know it was a malicious action. If they start to see rust the next day and see it slowly progress, it might be hard to trace back to someone.
Don’t lose sight that you are committing a crime, you are destroying an innocent persons property, and you really have no excuses if caught by either the owner or the police
Ah, but I thought the point of this thread was to keep the insurance pain building, so if we want higher premiums, should it be slash all 4 so they can claim it and wreck their rates?

Rip off a sidepanel. Not even the smartest people on space x can fit a new one.

It’s better when insurance covers it

I had thought they were all corporate. Does tesla have non Tesla owned dealerships?
They don’t do third party dealerships. All showrooms & service centers are owned by them.
Paint probably.
Also I would never support anything illegal. As the law requires.
Like, painting a Cybertruck?
Its not vandalism, its just courtesy. The poor machine didn’t come with any.
some of the stickers you can easily find end up ruining the finish.
the more you know
I sure love bologna

“Don’t breathe the fumes” seems like a bit of an understatement for a reaction that produces chlorine gas.
That, and it doesn’t sound great to put in a squirt gun, which is almost certainly going to leak to some degree

So dual wielded super soakers, one bleach filled, one vinegar filled!
Excellent idea
Sounds like fun
Hell, just bleach alone will eat through stainless steel!
The acid makes it rust in seconds instead of days though, instantly visible and quite permanent damage.

Overnight, bologna can do some serious damage to paint, not sure what it might do to untreated aluminum.
Like others said, paint is expensive AF, but also the classic “Slash 3 tires” is expensive
Extra expensive because Tesla’s (Well, EVs in general I’m pretty sure) need special and more expensive tires due to the weight
My leaf uses normal tires.
Don’t lose sight that you are committing a crime, you are destroying an innocent persons property, and you really have no excuses if caught by either the owner or the police
Nobody who’s bought a Tesla in the past few years is “innocent.”
Poor innocent demagogue* supporters :(.
*Back then
Surely some are un-soId.
Are tires usually covered by insurance?
My ex girlfriend had everything insured on her car. Even tires. Kinda crazy if you ask me.
Only when all 4 are damaged, for reasons lol
Hence the “slash 3” rule lmao
I don’t believe this. And if it is the case I would just slash my 4th before make a claim. Stupid.
It’s not true, I worked at auto insurance companies.
There are cases where it is the case, but it’s rare.
Ah, but I thought the point of this thread was to keep the insurance pain building, so if we want higher premiums, should it be slash all 4 so they can claim it and wreck their rates?
Oh yea you’re right lmao, def need to slash all 4 for that lolol
For legal reasons, this is a joke
I thought that you need to replace every tire on EV’s when you damage one.
It’s general guidance for any vehicle, but it’s not a requirement
It’s just for proper wear leveling and balance for a smoother ride
Nope, that’s only for all wheel drive cars with combustion engines
Tiny water balloons filled with brake fluid.
In Minecraft, right?
