A kid punched my son in the back of the head. My son pushed him to the ground. The kids ran and told the teacher. Teacher: “did you knock him over?”
Son “Yes because he was punching me”
    Teacher “is that true?”
Kid “no, I never touched him!”

    My son got detention.

Once Trump got elected, that was the end of teaching my kids honesty is worth a shit in this country.

Look, I get it. But you shouldn’t teach dishonesty. I was going to say we need people who care about others and our world instead of being completely selfish but the reality is we’ve been taking so much from resources and harming the environment that it’s probably too late. I’d like to believe my kids will have a better outcome when they’re adults but I’ll just have to die hanging on to that belief.

I’d rather teach my kids to be dishonest and unselfish. I really don’t see any point in being honest more than the necessary minimum.

I don’t teach my kids to be either honest or dishonest. I tell them that they need to learn to find out whom to trust and in which area. From their interactions, I hope they can make up their minds on how honest they want to be.

Life is so complicated, especially now that I guess we’re kind of tasked with imparting some knowledge on our kids. I try to think about how I learned, and I like to think it was entirely from experience, but you absolutely absorb some of what you hear and see from your parents.

I tell them to be giving, but sometimes you have to be selfish; be nice, but sometimes you gotta be firm with people. I basically tell them every person is out there living their own life, they have their own motivations, and you can’t waste time wondering what someone else’s definition of right and wrong is, and to just stick to your guns and don’t be a doormat. And then I second guess myself, because I still have no idea what’s going on.

    Right???

It’s like the whole system is set up to actually reward bad people. Everyone who gets rich seem to do it by taking advantage of everyone else, ripping everyone else, treating everyone else badly, cheating, lying, etc.

Don’t forget, this happens in corporate jobs too. The only ones that can climb the ladder are the ones who do so via stepping on other employees and faking it till they make it.

Capitalism rewards greed and antisocial cheats and shortcuts. Once youve won capitalism, you make a bunch of movies about how to be the better person and win without violence. Then you develop unmanned drones that can kill from miles away autonomously.

You now have the masses soft and ripe for exploitation, and those that rise up are quickly eliminated

This is why class politics is incomplete without an understanding of hierarchy. People within a hierarchy will try to pass accountability up the chain, and it stops at the first person capable of deflecting it down. The more egregious the offense the higher up the chain it goes so the ones at the upper levels make sure the hierarchy is as tall as possible so that accountability never reaches the top. Your manager is the next rung up the hierarchy from you and most offenses are minor enough for them to deflect it. Sometimes the bureaucracy enables the accountability to be spread across so many hands that it fizzles out, and sometimes someone has to take the fall.

Yeah but I’m guessing the shift manager at burger king is not going home to a mansion.

But that’s the game. Keep the poors fighting over scraps.

          It’s about the wealth-gradient.

Shit always moves down the gradient.

Temperature gradient. Pressure gradient. Wealth gradient is the same.

That’s why they say “shit rolls downhill.”

Lately I’ve been telling myself “no war but class war” whatever a dickhead in a shitty car cuts me off or rides in the shoulder or something, as a reminder that “poor bad people” are victims too.

Basically it helps direct my anger at those who deserve it more, not the misguided thin blue line jagoff who probably will be homeless if they miss a paycheck, etc. (And don’t get me wrong, I wanna strangle them but we have a common enemy even if they don’t know it!)

Poor “perfectionist ethics” good people get punished even worse.

People who are ethically normal and average but poor are usually content. People who operate on vibes are fine. I’m surrounded by them.

But if you are stupid and selfish you are fucked and if you are smart and neurotic about being a good person you are double fucked.

Mine is that people think punishment will come after death, so there is limited reason to bother seeking justice now. Extremely apathetic world view.

When I was a kid, I used to see bad things on the news, illegal logging in the Amazon, species going extinct, toxic pollution, deliberate oil spills, ethnic cleansing, famines, political corruption, rabid corporate greed, and I believed the silver lining was “Now that everybody knows about it, people will work to stop it.”

I was way too old when I realised almost nobody does.
