My heart skipped a moment… I thought that the clouds parted, a sunbeam came down, a choir somewhere sang sweetly… and I was going to eat some Pad Thai.

Maybe it is just an analogy (specifically metaphor). If it were in simile form, you would write "Trump dying is like a bowl of Pad Thai … "

Dieing would be too good. I want him paying for his crimes. I want him demoted, incarcerated, humiliated and see his whole criminal crew brought to justice. Then he can die.

I just want him gone. Would I like to see him pay for his crimes? Absolutely. But between him dying of an aneurysm today and going to prison next week, I’ll take the aneurysm because that’s one less week with him in power.

There was a post, in a similar vein, based on the Princess Bride. Specifically, it was Inigo Montoya and his quest for revenge. Most revenge plots usually end with “killing you won’t bring my [insert relationship here], so I guess I won’t.” Montoya took a slightly different approach: “Since you can’t bring my [insert relationship here] back, why should I let you live?”

It seems close to a zeugma (or syllepsis?). When you apply some part of a sentence to two others with different meanings…

    As in the sentence:

“He took the country in ostage and a bullet in the head.”

(Where “to take” is used with differents of its meaning).

Yet, I am not sure, the figure here is a bit different…

While anyone else would indeed be more competent, they wouldn’t have the same cult-like following which I think is needed

Yes, after Bonespurs has his final Big Mac Attack I fully expect MAGA to self-destruct in an orgy of backstabbing, as they all scramble for their little bits and pieces of the reeking power vacuum. None of them have anything like his bizarre charisma to hold onto millions of believers no matter what.

Trump has also attacked any contender to the throne, because if he has a successor lined up, they might try to take the throne early.

A lot of the reason he’s so much worse this time around is that most of the beuracracy was either left intact or replaced with moderately competent people the first time. They’d ignore everything that came out of his mouth and only do stuff when he signed an EO, reverting when a court blocked it.

This time it’s all true believers or people will do anything for power and think making him happy will get them that. They take the initiative to implement his word salad and have much longer attention spans, sidestepping or ignoring the courts to keep pushing. Insignificant picks like the head of national parks are shoving his face on passes, painting a pool with zero planning because he mentioned it once, and blowing their whole budget on an arch.

There was drama surrounding him firing prosecutors in his first term, but the replacements all got picked by establishment conservatives. This time, a bunch of the key prosecutors are his former attorneys or hardcore supporters, leading to a bunch of vengeful prosecutions.

I’ve been saying it, Trump is openly corrupt, but JD Vance is the boytoy of Thiel, you DO NOT want Thiel having direct power. I want Trump to live a nice long 2 more years.

        Hoping for January 21st, 2029.

Although some want him to stand trial, that’s not going to happen. Best to just be rid of him, and not make him a martyr for the 33% who still inexplicably support him.

Trump is a buffoon, but we’ll miss him when we get his replacement in four to eight years. I know this sounds impossible, but GWB was such a stupid humiliation back in the day; now he seems quaint.

The next “bad cop” in our tired comedy routine will probably be smarter. I mean, come on. He has to be.

Trump is the inevitable result of years of Dollars are Free Speech and Corporations are People ™. When a government is for sale, the President is a sellout. We’ll get a very brief respite with the “good cop” portion of the show, at best.

(I vote in every election, and you should, too. Because it’s funny. The more people that vote, the funnier it gets. The voters play the “straight man” or “comedic foil” part of the bit)

Dollars are Free Speech and Corporations are People

Take a labor union that represents a thousand workers. The owner of the company they work for decides to support an anti-union candidate. She can only donate a few thousand dollars to the campaign, but she can independently spend ten million dollars advertising how great the candidate is because the 1st amendment says the government can’t limit her personal political expression. The union doesn’t have the protections of the 1st amendment, so it can’t run a counter-campaign against her. Each individual has to run a thousand different campaigns.

Buying a billboard is your personal right. Citizens United says that right doesn’t disappear when a group bands together. This in theory helps the common man since otherwise the wealthy are the only ones who can afford to run a parallel campaign.

The problem we are facing has nothing to do with that. Our problem is that wealth inequality has gotten so bad that the rich can drown out the collective voice of everyone else. The rich were already figuring this out before that decision.
