I just saw a video of an AI executive saying that people will connect their brains to the cloud so they can have 1,000 times more thoughts.

Neurotypical people. Please listen to me. I promise you, with all the ADHD in my body-

You really do not want 1,000 more thoughts.

You may think you do, but you extremely do not.

Autistic+ADHD+DID here to tell you that no… No you do NOT want 1000+ thoughts all at once, it’s literally the worst idea imaginable why would you want that???!!?!!!?!?!!!

Not the cloud, but I wouldn’t being able to connect my brain to my computer just locally.

Being able to think at a computer and have it do things seems really nice, as someone whose brain is often faster than their ability to type well.

For things like transcribing notes for uni, or just having a notepad so I can remember things I don’t have the memory capacity to hold would be great.

They’re not all at once. It’s like a thought streaming service piped to your brain that is near impossible to shut off or focus well.

I’m sure it feels like a lot, but ADHD is almost certainly not 1000x as much as a normal person experiences.

It appears to say a thousand times more.

Which - holy shit - how did we not clock that massive self-report? They have so few thoughts that this strikes them as a desirable and possible increase.

Under no circumstances do you want the inability to shut your brain off. Trust me, as an autistic person. It’s a terrible double edged sword that is not worth it a fair bit of the time.

Didn’t you have ads in the 20th century?

Well, sure, but not in our dreams. Only on TV and radio, and in magazines, and movies, and at ball games, and on buses, and milk cartons, and T-shirts, and bananas, and written on the sky… But not in dreams.

Those 1000 more thoughts - all advertising streaming directly into your subconsciousness.

For real though. That’s exactly how I feel when someone claims that their AI helps because it comes up with ideas for them. Like what sort of dull and unimaginative existence does someone who isn’t bombarded by ideas 24/7 have?! Next you tell me that you don’t constantly fuck up recipes because you got bored and deviated from the instructions for no real reason smh

Skipping the AI bullshit… having 1000x thoughts sucks because you can’t act on them. You can’t move or type 1000x times faster to do 1000x things. If brain-computer interface would let you not only think 1000x faster but also do things faster it would be… it might not be terrible.

It’s also a bit of a zero sum thing. My brain might have 1000x the normal amount of thought, but they’re not as well thought out, nor as complex, and it burns through energy to do it.

Your energy reserves would deplete in three minutes, and then you’re nursing a headache or feeling awful the rest of the day.

Maybe you can use some of those thousands of thoughts to mind- control a bunch of robots. Then you could accomplish an equivalent amount of things physically as if you could move 1000x faster.

Also typing should not be an issue if you have your brain hardwired to the spicy autocorrect demon.

Allow me to reframe that. It would lead to more successful decision making. Whatever that might mean, good or bad.

Oh, you can’t? For the cheap price of $999.99 (weekly), you can have access to cutting edge AI models which will act on those thoughts for you.

Your physical body would probably burn out at that speed. Perhaps some substantial speed increases would be in order? 1.5x? 2x? Imagine the friction of going 1000x; in your joints, in your organs; the blood flow, the stress on your heart.

We tried this shit in the 80s with cocaine. Tech bros all just want virtual cocaine.

Obviously I don’t mean physically moving 1000x faster. Probably just the shockwave would destroy your apartment and kill everyone around you.

But if you could access and send information 1000x faster… you could code custom OS in couple hours (days?), you could research anything in microseconds, you could shitpost at incredible frequency…

Banks describes something like that in… Matter I believe. A character uses her brain-computer interface to check the route to another solar system, weeks away, with all the ships she will have take and were she will have to rendezvous with them and she does it in a blink of an eye, without losing track of the conversation she’s having.

If I could just get something to record all the ideas that come up while I’m in the middle of something and the juices are flowing that would be great. Maybe check my parts inventory to see I have all the stuff I’d need to act on it or look up reference information while it’s at it. That’d be way better than my current strategy of jotting down a quick note and not looking at it again until I’m no longer in the zone and don’t feel like doing anything.

Not putting a chip in my head though, it’d have to be some kind of self hosted thing I could talk to.

Never even mind the quantity issue. The idea of plugging thoughts from “the cloud” into my head is horrifying. You really want to be free-basing the shit on the internet that already makes you feel dumber just by reading / watching it?

I’ve tried explaining to normies how ‘living in the moment’ is actually awful and is basically like being a goldfish… the never get it.
