This is so irrelevant to me. To be honest I never watched a single video of this person.

    First time Linux user

Knows nothing about the choices you make in Arch to personalize your system

“Yes, Arch is the one for me! Because I know everything about Linux already.”

Soon: “I don’t know why X is happening on my system”

He doesn’t need to keep his system working, he can probably pay someone for that. He needs something that will maximize engagement, and a million “I use arch BTW” comments is exactly what he wants.

I don’t think that was the goal cause he didn’t post like a post, it’s a story. Engagement on it is not visible and as far as I’m aware, it doesn’t boost anything.

Also Linux would be the last place any influencer would go for engagement farming.

Just because SteamOS is based on Arch now doesn’t mean that using SteamOS teaches you anything about using Linux or Arch specifically.

The SteamDeck literally obfuscates most of it and you have to choose to boot into desktop mode to even mess with anything.

Anyone who can install windows can install Arch using something like EndeavourOS (which, for people who don’t know, is literally just Arch, using a graphical installer and some sane defaults for a desktop PC (Plasma, pipewire, Wayland, etc etc))

You don’t have to do the intimidating “boot from Arch live install medium and install everything manually” on your first run (or ever). I really only do that when I’m setting up a server. For a desktop, EndeavourOS takes a fraction of the time to get going.

and you have to choose to boot into desktop mode to even mess with anything.

You say that like it’s a bad thing, but I think having the two separate modes is a fantastic setup. You get basically a console experience, smooth and straightforward and easy to use for just playing games, and you still have access to the underlying system anytime you want.

Assuming that’s not some default config I just don’t know, that’s actually a rather competently built config for i3 or similar. If he did that hinself he should manage.

Any conclusions drawn from a child’s personality can’t necessarily then be applied to a parent. Hannah Montana Linux was ultimately a Debian, but it was so far from stock Debian that the comparison makes no sense. The same, I assume, applies with the Arch-derivative that runs on Steam decks. We’re not in Arch-kansas any more, Toto.

The closest to “Windows with nerdnip” is probably Linux Mint, but even then that’s a fairly unkind comparison.

        I use LMDE, btw.

Many years ago he paid like 5 bucks to see if some Indian guys would write “heil Hitler” on a sign and hold it up for a video (they did}. He was doing stupid edgy humor and playing with like like many creators at the time. Many people canceled him “fully” a year or so after that when he had the “bridge incident”. He called someone the n word for camping or something while he was playing PUBG. He apologized and took responsibility for using the word…sorta. He continued to make content for a few more years and then he “retired” in Japan with his wife and child. They post update videos every few months but more or less he got his bag and dipped out after he pulled too many stupid moves and was seen as “toxic” to work with.

I don’t think he’s a bad person, but that’s just as someone who occasionally watched his videos over the years.

Ivkenz I understand being mad at him for sure. It’s they staying mad at him forever that I don’t understand. People make mistakes. People change. He didn’t do anything worse than 90% of the guys I knew in highschool at some point. You grow up and you learn that behavior isn’t correct.

Changing is insufficient. Apologizing is only sometimes sufficient.

Sometimes to undo damage you need to actively push against the thing you did.

You don’t just say “sorry I said the N word, that was bad”. You educate people on why it’s not ok to say and call out others who say it. You put in the effort to make things better, not just good enough.

what the other guy said barely scratches the surface. he did so many things, shouting out a straight up neonazi propaganda channel as one of his favorites was one of them. he’s a pussy too, he always has this plausible deniability shit ready to go. but that only works if you’re stupid. you can “accidentally” do nazi shit only so many times before people catch on.

Disliking actual Nazis, instead of wasting your anger on this guy. He’s just used to be edgy. Not to mention he’s not even edgy anymore. He’s actually a pretty cool guy.

I can forgive people for being edgy back in the day, IF they apologize and explain why what they did was wrong. Pdp did nothing and just brushed it under the rug.

That is not true though. He has apologized, and has shown remorse, and has never done anything similar since. So he has learned from his mistakes. If you search for it, he has a video about the whole thing.

maybe one time is fine. this dude did it again and again. you can only go “oops I accidentally nazi’d” so many times. plus even if you’re not a so-called “actual nazi” there’s not much distinction in why exactly you use your platform to push or normalize nazism. I don’t give a fuck what’s in your heart; ironically fucking a goat is still fucking a goat.

He did more than make fucked up jokes, though. He was pushing white supremacist accounts that he followed on social media at one point to his young and impressionable audience. The proof is in the pudding, as they say, and he hasn’t done anything to rectify that situation one way or the other. Given the evidence we have, he could’ve simply started wearing his iron cross behind closed doors instead of on stream.

Having lived long enough to see the edgy teenagers making 4channer jokes grow up to and have those become their actual beliefs, I believe in Philosophical Inertia. You say something often enough, and it becomes what you truly believe. And until you prove otherwise, I am going to assume that your beliefs continue on that same course.

I wonder if he’ll make a video (if he hasn’t already) on why he chose to switch to Linux; I’m quite interested to hear what made him decide to switch, and I’m also very interested to hear what issues, if any, he encountered along the way.
