Having a favorite politician seems odd to me
Yup. This right here. It’s not a fucking sporting event.
You’re right, it’s like WWE, “sports entrainment” - after all, it’s all scripted and they have to sell taking a dive while getting paid.
That is a disturbingly accurate comparison.
Every election here in Sweden and EU I come to the same conclusion:
There are no good political parties, the best you can do is to vote for the least bad party, and hope that it works out.
Pretty much all over the world people say that and then race to vote for the second worst party/person because “the better one could never win.”
Vote for who you most align with, anything less than that is just betraying yourself and prolonging the inevitable slide to the right.
The issue you are describing seems to mostly stem from the idiotic and unfair system of first past the post, Sweden has proportional representation, so I do end up voting for the party I mostly align with, even if it is a completely new party.
I have voted for several different parties in the three normal elections, even at the same election day.
Then we have the act of protest voting, as well as support voting. These are tactics you can use in a proper voting system with a healthy amount of political alliances.
People will socially and otherwise murder to keep proper voting systems out of the USA.
(。・´_`・。)
Yea I’m in Canada and it’s that problem. We should be 8-9 years deep into ranked choice or similar but our centrist party that ran on that promise fucked it up big time because they realized that they’d probably never win an election ever again. Their entire platform basically depends on the Conservatives being such absolute trash that no one feels safe voting for our leftist, progressive party.
Thank you. This incessant capitulation to the lowest common denominator is why across the world we are seeing a rise in regressive, right-wing ideology.
People stopped fighting for better and have just consigned themselves to accepting literally the 2nd worst option out of fear that the worst option will succeed.
It’s a shitty catch-22 that is fundamental aspect of electoralist politics and why I vehemently am against them as a political structure.
Except the ‘least bad’ party gets 0.8% votes and almost all the votes go to worst and second worst. What most people mean by ‘least bad’ is simply ‘less bad’, as in ‘less bad than the other one’. And even that ‘less bad’ classification can be troublesome to wrap your head around.
Coming from Sweden, with proportional representation I can tell you that we do get niche parties elected for seats in the Riksdag (Swedish parliament) or Kommunstyrelse (municipal government) from time to time.
So it isn’t out of the question
If you have a politician that you rank above others, then by definition, that is your favorite politician.
I would say preferred, not favorite
Favorite just means most preferred.
Preferred means favoured, not necessarily favorite
Yes, but they specifically qualify that by saying “most preferred”. And the one who is favored most above all is by definition the favorite.
This is such a stupid fucking thing to be splitting hairs about. Just shut up.
Follow your own advice next time. Thanks.
Right, like when you favour a leg that is hurt? Is that because it’s your most preferred leg? Your favorite leg?
What if they’re my least disliked instead?
Vermin Supreme?
1000% agreed, but fuck if I wasn’t literally smitten listening to Lina Khan talk. Attacking corporate hegemony really gets my engine going.
I get what you’re saying, I like the way Jasmine Crockett speaks sometimes.
Many Republicans worshipped Reagan decades after his passing.🤷♂️
Why the fuck would anyone have a favorite politician?
I’m fond of Robert La Follette (one of the loudest voices against US entry into WWI), Russ Feingold (only senator to vote against the Patriot Act), and Bernie (who doesn’t need an introduction). In all of history, there are some politicians that stand above the rest.
No one has a fav politician
I guess those people mean whom they support in an election
Suppose I polled the American people’s agreement with the statement “In all of human history there is one politician who is my favorite above all others, and that politician is President Donald Trump.”
We know that I would get tens of millions of people who genuinely and strongly agree with that. It would be depressingly close to, if not over, a hundred million.
Or maybe over 100M before the Epstein revolt and below after, lol.
Yea. The politician whom they most support, otherwise said to be their “most preferred”.
You know what is another way to say that something is an individual’s “most preferred”? It would be to say it is the individual’s “favorite”.
Thus, people, in fact, do have favorites.
because he smiles like he’s part of your family and makes you feel good while standing firm in his beliefs against untold amounts of racism from all sides of the political stage?
ahem. I mean yeah why would they. I’m not in a cult. shut up.
Brother I’ll be honest with you, I will read 18 pages of whatever bullshit you want to write to me, but I won’t even watch 10 seconds of video.
Joke is that it’s an over the top song praising united nations politician Jen Egeland by the same artists that made “what does the fox say.”
Not in a cult, but my boy George Santos is flawless
/s
I think he goes by mother shabubu now
I’m disappointed now. I thought we were going to talk about Boy George.
Having a favorite politician is weird, like having a favorite landlord. You should care about the policies and efficacy of your politician, and not really give a fuck beyond that, unless they are a rapist, serial drunk driver, or something like that.
favoriteleast hated?I think “most tolerable” would be acceptable.
The people who need to read this cannot read.
I wish that was a joke. There is a direct correlation with the rise of fascism and the decline of American reading scores. Currently nearly a quarter of our adult population is functionally illiterate. Meaning they can identify words, they can send texts, they can reply to messages or read headlines, but are incapable of anything more advanced than that.
We somehow think that there’s a sharp line between “cannot read at all” and “can sit down with a paperback and be whisked away to another world” when actually it’s a spectrum, like everything else.
Really what this means is that a sizeable set of our population, because they suck at reading, also suck at forming language in their heads, and because of this cannot manage and consider complicated, abstract ideas or reframe thoughts into words that can be analyzed. When you live like this, you tend to just go along with whatever other people are doing and you have intense emotional reactions to everything you see.
This is precisely why it’s every government’s top priority to cripple the education system. Or if it’s already crippled - either cripple it further or just keep it as is, depending on the circumstances.
Personally I live in the EU, so it’s not nearly as bad for me as it is for Americans. However, even in Europe most politicians and their parties get elected simply because people don’t know better and follow whatever their preferred TV station says.
A lot of Europeans also have difficulties separating personal feelings from politics. You criticize one politician and suddenly everyone is mad, because that means you must be a devoted supporter of their opponent. Sometimes it feels like everyone is brainwashed, because they can only do ‘white’ or ‘black’, as if there were no other shades in between.
I was supposed to have a favorite politician? I just assume that anyone who wanted a position of power is probably plotting something
If you’re an American and you can’t name… let’s say… 10 presidents, then it’s probably a bad sign if you even have a favorite politician.
I disagree with Bernie Sanders about eliminating national-states.
There.
I said it.
Cool, well I disagree with this and vehemently believe that progress will never be achieved until we abolish the concept of the state.
i had no idea sanders is THIS based
No, he wants to keep them.

If your sides are left and right they don’t both love billionaires.
Take an ideological side, not a political party side.

Notice how neither side has gotten shit done that help the people?

John Brown died (how could he?!) and left America without guidance until Malcolm X came around…
It’s worse than that, there are Republicans that know he’s morally reprehensible, might destroy the country, know he is incompetent, and still worship him.
bawt he was sant by gawd!
He even has a red hat !
Having a favourite politician is alrrady almost cult like. Yeah, you can like and support some of their ideas but at the end of the day they are a politician.
Not really, no. Cults are a very specific means of control. Almost every organization ever has some minor aspect of the BITE model, but that does not make them cults. Doing so waters down the term and is insulting to people trying to get out or have gotten out.
Ahem…. Bernie.
The 2025 Bernie people are definitely a cult, talk about beating a dead horse. It also shows the hypocrisy of all the “we want all the old white wealthy dudes out of politics!” And then demanding Bernie. Also Bernie is great at pointing out the bullshit but never has a plan to replace it. Having said that I love and agree with his views for the most part, but I don’t lip service, when I mean I want old white men out I mean all, not just the ones I dislike.
Edit: kinda proving my point with the downvotes about the Bernie cult
LOL
“Bernie doesn’t have a plan”
Bernie got 200,000+ Americans a living wage simply by getting off his ass and giving speeches at Disney and Amazon, bringing media coverage to their shitty labor practices. This was while Democrats sat on their hands and pretended that they’re powerless.
It’s unreasonable to expect people not to be bitter when Democrats rigged primaries against him and served us up two Donald Trump presidencies.
People aren’t Bernie cultists. It’s just a novelty when there’s a federal legislator who says things and then walks the walk.
Your tone and hurt feelings Kinda proving my point about the cult stuff.
When I say I want old white guys out of politics I mean it
My tone doesn’t prove your point.
My tone demonstrates annoyance at your ill-informed opinion, which I’ve shown by presenting counterexamples.
And a broader annoyance at ill-informed people being confidently incorrect.
How can my opinion be ill informed or not? It’s an opinion, not a universal truth. The cult of Bernie is strong here. If he ends up on the Epstein list y’all are gonna trip over yourselves to defend him
How can my opinion be ill informed or not?
… by basing your opinion on weakly supported assertions or outright misinfo. I didn’t realize this was complex.
It’s MY opinion though, YOUR opinion is wrong to ME. Get it yet?
Anyways why am I arguing with a cultist? It’s like arguing with maga, with left views.
Man, “The world is round” and “The world is flat” are both opinions, that doesn’t mean one can’t be ill-informed and the other well-informed.
If you meant it youd do something about it. When are you running, I look forward to seeing your policies!
Very culty
I think Bernie inspired a movement that is quoted because he has many good ideas that can help people. Other “cults” don’t help anyone other than themselves and wreck shop.
Finding a problem is part of being productive. Just because people find the problem doesn’t mean they can have a solid solution. But our government is built on adjusting. It has not been adjusted. The corporations have duped the American people into believing that their guidance is in their best interest in every way possible.
The exit strategy is restructure or complete annihilation and then rebuild. History has proven this many times. See Egypt, Rome, France, England ect.
Also Bernie is great at pointing out the bullshit but never has a plan to replace it.
Is this really the case, or is it that his plans don’t get a lot of analysis and detailed criticism because we all know the rest of the government will never pass it? And I don’t mean this as a Bernie-defending retort — I don’t follow him closely but I thought he’s proposed plenty of legislation and laid out changes in his speeches. His history in defending people that are not white dudes is pretty legit too, of course.
And given that he’s old, rich, and has his heart in the right place, I bet he would instantly jump at the chance to be exiled from washington along with all the other elderly people.
By that logic, Christianity is a cult. Oh wait.
Bernie is one of the few politicians with a plan.
The fan club can be annoying in peddling conspiracies, but if there’s one thing that I’ve learned over the past decade, it’s that no political alignment absolves people from fucking stupidity.
That’s US politics as a whole. Ever since the first Trump presidency a blue MAGA has been forming in the democrat camp. They’ve taken over pretty much all representation online by now. Bernie is also a victim of this by a similar left-lib MAGA forming around him.
Except Bernie gets a ton of criticism from his left for his unwillingness to act on gaza.
The joke among Bernie supporters has always been “Bernie is the compromise”.
I wouldn’t say those are Bernie supporters. They’re left of Bernie as you’ve noted.
Yet many left-libs are willing to throw theory out of the window just to have a chance to slightly nudge the democrats to the left. His supporters are willing to leave class consciousness and struggle behind for some crumps of concessions. Those left of Bernie who are not his supporters, don’t.
Also a cunt.
You are also in a cunt?
I wish. Probably would be in a much better mood.
… Says the furry beaver.

What happened here I wonder
They said something about AOC voting for funding for Israel. Didn’t seem like something worthy of having the comment removed but idk, maybe that didn’t happen? I’m not familiar with whether or not that really happened.
Oh :(
